I am a single mother of 2 beautiful children. I am looking for a caregiver position to help people because it is personally fulfilling and I want to make a positive difference for someone through their hard times. :) Overall I have 8 years caregiving experience. My grandmother had Alzheimer's which me and my mother would help her daily and take shifts making sure she was properly cared for. It was very fulfilling and taught me a lot. My mother is now in her late 60's, has diabetes, mental disorders, among other conditions. She's recently had 2 knee surgeries and hip replacement which me and my 2 children helped her pre/post op to make sure she has what she needs to complete her daily tasks and fast track her healing. From physical therapy, going on walks with her stroller, doing laundry, dishes, picking up her apartment to ensure it's a safe environment with no trip hazards, dispense medication, grocery shopping, transportation, or even just playing a board game. As I said I thoroughly enjoy helping people and want them to be happy and enjoy life. Having 2 people whom I care for deeply on the receiving end of care, It is something I am very passionate about to ensure everyone has a companion, a lending hand and a positive experience. Hopefully I can get a chance to help make a difference here!

I help her with buying food/errands, make sure fridge is full and shes stocked up on toiletries etc, laundry, dishes, house cleaning, safety proofing for less falls and room for her walker, (the less clutter there is she feels better mentally too!) PT from her surgeries, card games, keep her company by talkingor watching something she wants to, motivate her to get involved with activities that are offered at her senior living facility such as bingo, swap night, bon fire talks, or just for us to get out and stroll to the mail box (sometimes just getting out helps then she eventually wants to go by pool after to look etc). Help her with calming mechanisms if she starts getting overwhelmed with bills or making payments etc.

Looked after client post surgery who needed extra help with getting in/out of bed for bathroom, getting up for breakfast, changing, showering, etc. Did some physical therapy with her to help her walk a bit around her house with the gate belt. Helped until her post surgery hours ran out and hours were no longer covered unfortunately.

Compassion and empathy for others are traits that enables me to work well as a caregiver. The study of Gerontology at Edwards university convinced me that Positive Aging or Aging Gracefully is really attainable with the right tools and the right attitude in place. My mother assisted the elderly, I would help her from time to time. I knew it was the right thing to do. When I graduated high school, I went to work in a Nursing home as a Nurses Aide. The thing I enjoy most about caregiving is being able to encourage others to live and enjoy life one day at a time in spite of the circumstances. Securing the 83 hrs of Gerontology at St. Edwards University and the time I learned and worked for the City of Austin for 22 years. I started as a volunteer, Senior nutrition aide, promoted to Site Mgr. , promoted to Site Mgr. Supervisor, Promoted to Project Director, Senior Employment. When I retired I was acting Program manager of Senior Programs. These are two achievement I'm proud of. The greatest achievement was when a Hospice client was motivated, got up from bed and starting fixing her breakfast again.
