I am 65 years old and married to Arthur Barrera for 44 years. We have a son who will be 40 this July. I have 2 beautiful granddaughters, ages 5 and 3, who are very special to me - they keep me going. I enjoy cooking and spending time with my family. I am energetic and enjoy helping others. For example, I helped care for my mother for many years before she passed away from complications of diabetes. My mother needed lots of care after she had multiple surgeries including an amputated toe. I cleaned her wound, helped her bathe, went grocery shopping, cooked and cleaned for her. I then cared for my elderly sister, Irma about 10 years ago. Irma suffered from diabetes, renal failure, heart disease, blindness and breast cancer. I cooked for Irma, took her grocery shopping, dialysis and doctor appointments. Currently, I am helping my brother Rey who suffers with diabetes, renal failure, heart disease and blindness. I cook for him, take him grocery shopping, to dialysis and doctor appointments. I live in a 55+ living community and I help my neighbors any chance I get. I don't consider myself an expert in caring for the elderly but, I do have a lot of experience caring for my senior family in my life.
