About Vernon

I consider myself a great caregiver because I listen to my clients carefully and always have my eye on my client in case they need me. I became a caregiver because it allows me to use the abilities listed above, as well as my ability to feel empathy, show compassion and understanding, and utilize my 25 years healthcare experience along with my counseling experience while obtaining my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology. I've always enjoyed the gift I inherited from my mother which is the ability to build rapport quickly and make people feel both at ease and comfortable, with a laugh or two along the way, when appropriate or needed. I spent one year working with a friend of mine as his caregiver/personal assistant and he was very pleased and told me on numerous occasions that I was "a natural" and "good at my job." Part of my duties was to learn to assist him with his rehab exercises and we were able to make progress. Mostly, my comfort with personal care placed him at ease as he had expressed discomfort with a caregiver of the opposite sex with the more personal issues like hygiene. I believe a positive attitude and a setting made comfortable by the caregiver/personal assistant, is an environment of healing for all ages.

Provided care and assisted my client, a stroke patient, with transportation, mobility/transfers, small parts of bathing and toileting that he couldn't do due to his left side immobility, shopping, errands, and most importantly trained with his physical and occupational therapists to assist him with exercises in addition to his appointments and until his insurance benefits for rehab kicked back in. I was also his companion for lunch, chatting, medical appointment, some fun outings to keep spirits up.
