About Kathryn

Hello, my name is Katie! Here is a little about myself; I'm from Pittsburgh and received my bachelor's in music there however I am currently going to UTEP for my masters in Occupational Therapy. I am a person who tends to be full of energy and I really enjoy caring for others. I worked at a facility called The Woodlands Foundation for 3 years, in which I lived at the facility for 10 weeks and performed personal care/companion care for children and adults with many different diagnosis'. The diagnosis' included autism, cerebral palsy, spinabifida, down syndrome, seizure disorder, and many more. I also have worked in a home care facility for about 6 months during college where I did night care for an adult. I am very experienced in performing personal care as well as implementing behavioral interventions. I encourage independence as much as possible! I was on management for one year planning all activities for the children's program there and supervising the larger summer camps. Recently I have just finished caring for my grandfather who has Guillian Barre Syndrome and I have been doing all personal care needs and running errands for him and my grandmother who is also in need of care. I also nannied for some families for a few years. The first family I took care of their 3-year-old boy and 1. 5 yr old girl. I traveled with them to Russia for 2 months and gave the children English lessons every day and planned many activities to fill the days (educational and musical). The second family that I was employed with in Miami had 3 children (2 boys, 7 & 9. 1 girl 5). The final family I worked with is a family from Pakistan and cared for their 3 yr old boy and 7 yr old girl in Pittsburgh. I also worked at a facility called the Woodlands Foundation for 3 years (PA). Katie Patterson

My personality trait is every day wherever I go throughout the day how can I help someone. My joy is helping people in anyway I can. If I cannot help them I will look for that help for them and try to bring a smile on their face also. My Expertise as a caregiver is to put a lot of care and thought into my work. To complete every task that is required of me I can assure you that I'm very committed to my work. I also, put a lot of care into it. What attracted me to become a caregiver as my mother became ill I had to leave my full-time job. I cared for my mother to my best ability until her passing. During this time I was able to become a caregiver to other individuals. Family members were satisfied with my service. Due to the fact that I cared for these individuals as I would my own mother. What do I enjoy of most of being a caregiver ? Every time I am done taking care of my individuals. It's a fulfillment within my soul. That this individual was being taken care of to the best of my ability. What is a personal achievement you are proud of? To be my mother's caregiver working side-by-side with the doctors sorting her medication daily. To control her illnesses such as her A1c for diabetes, weight, mental illness, asthma, and COPD. My mother was able to have a longer and healthier life until her passing.

I became a caregiver the moment my grandmother became ill. She had a caregiver and I decided that was my calling, help and assist not only my grandmother and mother but those in need. Whether it's to talk , read, cook , as well as gardening. I enjoy helping and care about the well being of others. I am an excellent listener and love to listen to stories and tell them as well. I know how to deescalate situations which is at the best interest of both parties. Overall, I enjoy multiple activities and my experiences with my patients has given me o such joy to give back.
