I am patient and caring. I am hard working and reliable. I have always stood up to defend people who are in need. I love cooking, cleaning and organizing. I am a great listener and love to talk. I love running errands. My initial beginnings in caregiving began in 1984 when I volunteered at a nursing home near my house. I loved visiting with the elderly and talking to them. I read with them, walked with them. Later I helped the activities director in social functions for the elderly such as cookouts and Christmas programs. Eventually, I was hired to actually run the activities as a summer job for 3 months. I scheduled cookouts, movie days, and volunteer groups to present musical programs for the elderly. I even did morning exercise groups with the residents as well as assisting patients with walking. I have had the privilege of serving as a caregiver to my elderly parents, my grandparents, and my elderly aunt. I have assisted in scheduling their appointments for doctor's appointments and lab work. I accompanied them to their doctor's visits and took notes to make sure to record the doctor's directions. I have assisted in shopping for groceries and picking up medications. I found that I really enjoyed this work because I knew I was making a difference. As a caregiver, I feel I am an advocate and a friend. My relationship with my elderly family members was strengthened in taking on the role of a caregiver. It made me feel very good to see the progress and sense of purpose that my elderly family members have attained over these past three years, I have been assisting them. Seeing that they have quality of life and relief in their faces when I help them with some concern or issue has been very rewarding. I understand how important it is to make sure our elderly loved ones have a person who can help and be there in time of need.

In this position, I basically assisted patients who could no longer feed themselves. I also had after school activities such as library club, chess club, Anime club and Teens for Christ club. I hosted book fairs and book of the year school wide reads as well as reading festivals. I had several authors come and promote their books writing and reading to the students in an after school program.

To be my mother's caregiver working side-by-side with the doctors sorting her medication daily. To control her illnesses such as her A1c for diabetes, weight, mental illness, asthma, and COPD. My mother was able to have a longer and healthier life until her passing.
