hello, i enjoy sitting with my elders and hearing the stories from their time. we can learn a great deal from the stories our elders share with us. I can multitask pretty well when needed though the safety of my patient comes first and foremost so if it comes down to doing dishes or following my patient who is on an adventure today ill follow my patient. i am trained in first aid, CPR, and AED (the portable machines they use to restart your heart). i do well with kids (i was actually and am still currently a child development specialist with a certificate to work with special needs children) running around my feet if they come to visit my patient. i can take my patient to run errands or even help them get to dr. appointments so long as its in town and not in the city. I have many veterans in my family both older and younger and i have adapted to the blunt unsugar coated way they speak and even the mood swings some of them have due to war related problems so i dont get my feelings hurt very easy nor do i expect my patients to be sweet and kind 24/7. one of my personal achievements that i am proud of aside from being a domestic abuse survivor and raising my 5 wonderful kids on my own is that while i was in my marriage with my abuser i still managed to be able to care for my step mom on her death bed. the hospice nurses taught me a lot and i stayed alongside my father for 2 weeks helping take care of my mother by choice and comforting my father the best way i knew how. i learned a lot and i grew up a lot in those 2 weeks taking care of my infant, my mother and even my father. i carried the weight for our family to help as much as i could to make it less stressful on my father who was slowly watching the love of his life fade away. i learned then that i wanted to help people for a living. its not always easy but its always rewarding even in the most heartbreaking of moments.
Caregivers that work non-full-time jobs or irregular shifts can negotiate extra compensation in addition to their standard hourly wage.
