I became a caregiver because I love people. Through the years, I had the experience of seeing life through the eyes of my patients and my great grandmother before their passing. Every story I heard would either make me laugh or cry. Being a caregiver has helped me nurse my great grandmother up until her passing. It was my way of taking care of her like she has always done for me. What I like about being a caregiver is the bond I form with each resident is permanent. What I did for them and the chance they allowed me to come into their homes will always stay with me. What really touches me when the family members come to you and say " Thank you". That means a lot to me. One of my personal achievements that I am proud of is being blessed to be a big sister to my adopted baby brother, Michael. Since he came into our lives at two days old, he has been nothing but a blessing to me and my family. I can say that my caregiving skills came in handy when we discovered Michael was diagnosed with Autism at age 2. He has taught me a lot about patience, love and spending time playing games is fun. He is 8 now and is still a blessing to us. Being a caregiver has made me a better person and I understand that being a caregiver takes a person with a special heart.
