Household Manager/Personal Assistant

Jun 2015 - Jan 2021
Frank and Mary
At my most recent job, I was working for a family in North Carolina where I took care of the whole household and transportation needs for an older couple, 90 and 95, and their beloved pet dog. I was responsible for physically transferring the lady from bed to wheelchair after she had a stroke and lost use of her left side. I handled shopping, cooking, and driving for everything they needed. I managed the households making sure repairs are done in a timely manner, managed vendors and contractors, and oversaw their progress and project completion timelines, I took responsibility for inventories and ordered supplies all household supplies, and was effective in streamlining the ordering process for maximum efficiency at the lowest cost. As the Personal Assistant /Chief of Staff and household support manager, I took part in interviews and hiring decisions, and supervised staff. I managed multiple calendars, schedules, and set up travel and transportation in coordination with the main office. I assisted with all office/household technology including computers, printers, and smart devices. I designed, fabricated, and or repaired assistive devices and household appliances. I was in this position for 6 years and traveled with them to and from their homes in Florida, North Carolina, and Texas.

Restaurant Server, Banquet Setup

Nov 2008 - Jun 2015
MOUNTAIN LAKES COUNTRY CLUB
Seasonal restaurant work, The club only opens from November to the end of April, So I was serving food, breakfast in the formal dining room, setting up and serving various menus for lunches at the pool house, and dinner banquets, special events, and room service. Working at Mountain Lake I honed my service skills, especially serving high-end clients and club members. During the Off-season, I was chosen to be one of the few to work as a full-time employee and I did building and outdoor maintenance work including painting, plant care, and cleanup. An overall wonderful experience and a great company to be a part of.

Greetings, I've discovered that regardless of someones health condition or disability everyone deserves to have a good quality life and to be happy, thats way I became a "Compassionate Caregiver" it is so important to provide compassionate care to thoughes that need caring for. One of my good friends was in a car accident that left him as a Quadriplegic, now being such a young man, he became very depress with life and I had a problem with that so I decided to learn how to care for him and I did just that. I started by being Trained by the Healthcare facility free of charge were he lived. I started class room and hands on training for eight weeks and I had taken a CPR course. I did this so my friend could have a quality life. I also taken a course on how to transfer Quadriplegic patients so that I could transfer him the correct way from his wheel chair to my car and from the car to his wheelchair and back into the facility were he was living, that alowed us to go places, Dr appointments and places he liked going to. Then he stoprd looking at his self deficiencies but instead, he started loving life once again and loving people and we made the best of things. So he begin enjoying are times together once again just like old times and thats how I became a Home Healthcare Provider.

1 What makes you a great caregiver? I'd leave it to others to rate me as a caregiver: my clients, former clients, client's family members. I'd only say that competence, personal integrity and humility (serving and putting others first) are core to the kind of person I endeavor to be in THIS LIFE. 2 Why did you become a caregiver? I became a caregiver because I love ALL peoples, and serving is the best way to demonstrate sincere love, love as defined by N.T. writers This Douglas Adams quote says it best: "To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity." 3. What do you like about being a Caregiver? I'm gratified when the care I provide exactly meets the client's needs and allows family members to confidently have a guilt-free break from the care of an aging, ill, or disabled family member. (There are two in my family) 4. What is a personal achievement you are proud of? -I was picked to be on a team assembled to care for a quadriplegic client. I had the privilege of providing her professional home healthcare: meal preps, tub baths, light housekeeping, from bed to chair transfers, (without HoyerLift) She also required a colostomy bag and urinary catheter care. -I'm also proud to have been selected, from a relatively large number of candidates, to assist a family dedicated to the care of a loved one severely disabled by Autism. -Most recently, I enjoyed the privilege of helping to provide 24-hour care for a SECOND quadriplegic client: a large male, requiring assistance with no HoyerLift transfers, tub baths, lots of passive ROM & OT prescribed exercises, scheduled repositioning while asleep, and more -I once successfully self-prepared at home for a proctored Microsoft exam. -Self-instructed, I can speak some Spanish and some Mandarin Chinese. 5. Tell us something about yourself. Grandfather of 4 -lifelong Bible student -love: Gospel hymns, animals, plants, walks, ping pong, audiobooks.
