I have worked in some sort of home health care from the age of 19 through 35. When friends & classmates would talk about what they wanted to be when they graduated, I knew taking care of people was my passion. I could listen to older adults talk about their lives all day. I had a friend whose cousin was special needs & I fell in love! I was a home healthcare aid for children with special needs & when I was 28 I became a CNA. I stopped working because my husband took a job that required us to travel. I knew I wanted to work with special needs kids from the time I was about 14. I switched to adults when I became a caregiver for my father who was diagnosed with ALS. After he passed it was my passion to give adults as much care & compassion as I did my father. My personal achievement is running my home & caring for my 2 grade school children, 1 that has Autism, while my husband is away for work. I feel this has been the hardest challenge in my entire life. I do not have a support system so I have to do it alone except for when my husband is home for 1 week every month. I also find time to help care for my mother when needed & babysit my grandchildren when needed.
