I retired from Adult Protective Services, State of Texas in 2004. That gave me exposure to many difficult situations in 26 years. Since that time, I've worked in a funeral home setting, owned an estate sales business, worked for a husband/wife owned business almost 4 years and was laid off the end of April 2021. I currently work PT at a thrift store in Longview to keep my mind stretched. I served as one of my mother's caregivers from 2008-2014. She had physical issues with osteoarthritis and end stage heart disease, plus dementia. We moved her from an assisted living to my home, with a live-in caregiver, for the last 6 months she lived. Money was running low. I continued running the estate sales business and carried the night shift with mother while the paid caregiver attended to her during the days with relief as needed. My sister helped as much as possible. It was challenging but she took care of me when I couldn't take care of myself; I wanted to do the same for her.
