I became a caregiver after taking care of my greatgrandmother while she was in a nursing home, after passing they asked me if I wanted to work for them. I worked in nursing homes for 12 years. Also worked home health, private care, also in group homes, Ive been a care giver sence 1976, nothing else makes me smile. If Iam able to make the senior smile, or able to take them outside, so they can enjoy the smells of the summer air, or a ride to town, wharever makes the happy,thats what we can do. So seniors are so lonely, many of them the caregiver is the only person they see, in a day, many look forward to seeing us. Iam just glad that Iam still able to give my loving, caring self to help that special senior, and pray that theres a special person there for me if I should ever need one. When there happy then I fell as if Ive done my job,but for me its more than just a job, seeing them smile put a smile in my heart. Iam a very caring, loving lady that has a very special place in my heart for seniors, Ive done a few different things in my life, but Ive always seem to go back, to care giving. I am originally from New York and am of Italian descent. I am married to a retired U. S. Navy man and therefore have some basic knowledge and appreciation of the military. I have been in the healthcare field for the last 21 years and switched over to Home Health in 2005. I really enjoy helping people with their health needs, especially those who cannot do for themselves, such as the disabled or elderly. Most of my patients have been the elderly suffering from dementia or Alzheimers. However, I have also cared for a couple of centenarians who simply needed companionship and occasional errands done for them. I am a very friendly and outgoing person who is also very neat and clean.
