I have been the primary caregiver for both of my parents over the past 5 to 6 years. As they age and are no longer able to drive, the past 4 years has consisted of me driving them to medical, dental, lab,/imaging appointments as well as picking up prescriptions. I dispense medication in a pill box for them to be able to take as prescribed. I also do their grocery shopping and run any errands for things they need. I schedule all appointments and with the recent dimentia diagnosis, I am their medical power of attorney. With more and more appointments for the two of them, which requires me to miss work, they requested to appoint me as their paid caregiver after learning this was an option through their insurance. I like that I have been able to be available for my parents medical needs to not only provide history information they may not remember but to also be able to clearly explain to them what's going on.
