About Billie

I am a college graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical science and for as long as I can remember I have been taking care of someone. Being able bodied and helping someone who needs me is one of the greatest feelings I've ever known. Whether it is simply preparing a meal, drawing up a bath or giving one, at the end of each day I feel proud that I can give someone my time. Caregiving is more than a job, it is a sense of accomplishment. Accomplishment in knowing that you helped someone do something that they could not do on their own. When I was in college I worked with special needs adults who had mental illnesses, physical illnesses, such as, Multiple sclerosis, paralysis, Autism, dementia, bipolar disorder and many others. This is not a position I would recommend for just anyone. It was hard and I worked long hours but I woke up every day knowing that they depended on me to pass their medications, make their breakfast, lunch and dinner, help them with personal hygiene, and take them to their appointments and in some cases to their jobs. This job in particular opened my eyes to the real world in the sense that my problems were miniscule in comparison with the things that these people were going through. This is the reason that I chose to become a biomedical science major and eventually apply for medical school.
