I am a people's person and as a result found it fulfilling working with patients, be it an elderly or a child. It is very rewarding helping someone who cannot help themselves. I uphold the principle of treating others like you would like to be treated. As a young adult I tried becoming a nurse but could not complete the two-year RN program due to family commitment. I have always been drawn towards working with patients. My friends and family know me as a very patient human being to a fault. At this time I am working with an Alzheimer patient and one thing that the family would say is they do not have any worries when I go in to help on the weekends. One of my personal achievements that I am proud of is saving a situation involving a child in my newborn nursery. The common practice in the involved newborn nursery during a change in shifts, was as a nurse assistant, you do not touch a child that had been discharged, but my common practice was to check every child that I find in my section when I come in for duty, even if they had been discharged. Vital signs (T.P.R.) are very easy to monitor. I discovered this one child had a high temperature. I reported this to the nurse. The nurse asked to repeat the vital signs in 30mins but I repeated it within 15mins and reported it again.
