I truly care about those I take care of, I want them to feel comfortable and safeI. Iam a great listener and I have the desire to help in anyway that I can. I became a caregiver because I was the only one who my sick Grandma trusted to take care of her. This Job chose me at first , but as time went on I chose it, I kept returning to this type of work. I see being a caregiver as an honour and a privelage, it's a gift that most don't understand. I like listening to my elderly companions life stories, I enjoy the friendship , companionship. I enjoy helping them feeI happy and safe. I enjoy taking them out of the home if this is something they can do and go on walks. Fresh air is so good for the soul.. I have had clients in the past that just wanted to be driven around in a car for a few hours., so they didnt keep looking at the same four walls all day. Other caregiving job's the clientt didn't ever want to leave the home. My job is finding out what makes them happy and doing what Ican do to make it happen One of my personal achievements, was working with a grumpy 87 year old who had one caregiver after another! At first she didn't like me or want me around. I went at her pace and continued to be kind even when she wasn't.I did everything that was required of me and more. I would just sit in the same room with her watching TV . After a while when I learned what her favorite shows where I looked up trivia on them. We started talking more and more , because she saw that I was interested in her. She started opening up to me and really looked forward to me coming to work. The family was shocked, because she talked so highly of me and she never did this before.
