It all started with family. After college graduation, I was looking for a job when my uncle was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and he needed help. Since I had time, I took him to all his appointments, ran errands for him, scheduled doctors' visits, did light chores around the house. After he went into remission and returned to living independently, other family members were also in need of more care. I have been helping to take care of my aging grandmothers, and some of their friends, for the past 3 years, who have had their own health concerns. Not only do I love helping other people, I enjoy spending quality time with them. They have such rich lives and histories, it's a pleasure getting to know them on a deeper level. It's been such a wonderful opportunity to learn more about my family. I may not have studied, or searched, for this profession, but it is one I have seamlessly transitioned into and thoroughly enjoy. My hope as a caregiver is to provide as much aid as I can so that a person can still live a productive and happy life with respect and dignity.
