Traits that make me a great caregiver include being determined, organized, disciplined and patient while having common-sense at the same time. I pay close attention to the needs of the people who depend on me. I love cooking, shopping for groceries and keeping the home clean. Doing laundry is super satisfying. I was attracted to being a caregiver after coming to realize that not only was there a need for the people in my community such as older friends and neighbors, but that I was simply better at it than most. I enjoy seeing people safer, healthier and happier after I have spent time working on their behalf. One of the things I enjoy most about being a caregiver is the immediate satisfaction that comes with working directly with people. Seeing someone enjoy a home cooked meal I've prepared, having them put on the clean clothes that I've laundered and seeing someone feel refreshed after a proper bath is the best. One personal achievement I am proud of was the care I was able to provide a friend and neighbor who was also a WWII veteran. Given that he was in his 90s and had no children or known living relatives, the years I spent getting to know him and helping make his daily life better was especially rewarding.
