About Annette

I started out caregiving with my Uncle when he was 90 years old. I would take him on outings and have him over to my house for special occasions. After about 2 years my mom gave me power of attorney for my Uncle because she was busy with my ill stepdad. My Uncle had dementia pretty bad but he really enjoyed spending time together. In the meantime between working for the State of Washington and helping with my Uncle, My stepdad needed more help than my mom could give. I would come over and give her breaks to do shopping and etc. He had cancer So I would be at her house alot to help with him. I was with him during the last week of his life to comfort him and help my mom deal with his decline. When he passed my mother took a turn for the worse as most lifetime partners do. I decided to quit my job at the Casino so I could help her. After a few months it was imminent that I had to move in with her to care for her. She passed away in 2016 and 3 months after her my Uncle at 98 years young passed and 2 months after him my brother passed of cancer. That is when I decided I needed to help the seniors in my senior park. I help them with Dr. Appts, Filling out Legal paperwork, Talking with their insurance companies, help with medications etc.. I enjoy this type of work because I get to know the client and listen to the stories of growing up, but mostly I feel proud when they call me their guardian angel.

I have been a Certified Nursing Assistant for over 30 years. Part of that time I was a Medical Assistant. I became a caregiver originally to help family members, and found that I enjoyed it so much that I made it my career. I am most proud of the fact that I make lives better and increase the social life of my clients.

The world exists upon the kindness showed by others, and that this kindness keeps alive the souls of those needing care. What I like about being a caregiver is that, for clients who cannot do many of the things they used to do, like running around and getting things done to take care of their families--life now begins anew based purely upon things that matter now today-- the worth, the thoughts, and the amount of attention that is paid toward them. This is a time of really focusing only on the present moment, and it takes a certain degree of concentration even to do that, sometimes. They are now the person who need this the most. My greatest personal achievements are when clients, who experience a decrease in function, and sometimes can hardly move or talk, are the most appreciative for my attentiveness to understand them. The story of the Good Samaritan identifies a good neighbor as one who shows kindness, and the rewards write upon the heart and soul. Caregivers are to the aging population a group who recognize that aches and pains are not going to go away. What some call a disadvantage, or disability serve, in many ways, to be an advantage because we shift our focus and attention toward what is really important in life-- people and how they are treated. I am only one of many like-minded caregivers who believe that a moment of clarity with loved ones--paying attention to the good in the moment--is the same as finding diamonds in your own backyard.
