
I became a caregiver out of curiosity. I moved to WA in 1995. A family friend suggested I apply where he worked. I'd worked as a CNA in the past. I found the work to be interesting and fulfilling. I enjoy supporting the clients in achieving they're personal goals. I loved seeing the satisfaction in being more independent. I also am very big on comminity integration. It always puzzled me when other staff would ask how I was able to go out as often w/clients as I did. We'd take trips to Leavenworth on a charter bus, ride the sounder train to Tacoma Freight House Square to shop/lunch' We'd ride the shopper shuttles entire route just to meet new people and practice social skills. It was a great day when a client who normally stayed to herself, rarely speaking told a joke. She was amazed at herself that could make friends w/out having a nervous outburst. I loved it! I'm big on teamwork. We're all there to increase out clients quality of life. Give them a reason to look forward to a new day. Providing consistency is another personal goal of mine. To sum it up, my daughter tells this to people who ask what it is I do for a living. My mom doesn't work, she hangs out with her friends !! She knew about all the trips and funny things my clients did. That's not to say there weren't the occasional challenges. I just worked w/in the peramitures of the behavioral support plans. All in all I've enjoyed working in this field of work the last 18 years.
