I am known to be a very open, honest, gentle, and a patient person when it comes to working with seniors. I didn't originally look into being a caregiver I sort of fell into the job. My landlord had a brain injury and then came down with dementia and I noticed no one was visiting her very much let alone helping her around the house and much work needed to be done, so as I spent more time with her and began to help her around the house I discovered more and more care issues as she declined through the years. I enjoy being there for seniors because I wasn't able to be around for my grandparents who raised me before they passed. I lived in a different state and I was trying to get my life together as a young adult and I owe them a lot. I really wish I could have been there to help care for them. A personal achievement I am proud of with regard to caregiving can only be that I learned to swallow my pride and respect my elders and go to God. I am a very spiritual person, but despite caring for someone with dementia it can be difficult and easy to take things personally, especially in the early stages when you don't know they have it yet. I am just glad that I was able to swallow my pride and ask God for help in the end which was very difficult to do and in the end I'm glad I did.
