About Tammy

I became a caregiver when my brother was diagnosed with ALS in January, 2014. I was working in downtown Atlanta sitting at a desk. I loved my job and in August of 2014 I got laid off, I was devastated and it ended up being a huge blessing. I was able to take care of my brother until he passed away March 1st. I like being a caregiver because I got so much out of taking care of my brother. I have always taken care of the sick in my family, Mother and Father, Grandfather etc...I have always taken care of people and I get out of it what I give and that is a lot of TLC, gratitude and blessings. I would have to say my personal achievement was taken care of my brother and a week after he passed I started training to take care of a patient that is full blown ALS quadriplegic. And I caught on very quickly, like I have been doing it forever! I have never taken care of anyone of that magnitude. So i am pretty proud of that. I am a very sweet person that loves making someone smile, I love making someone else's day better. I am honest and dependable. I have two grown kids 19 and 24, they are my rock. I took care of my cousin the month of April and she just passed away. I am just wondering who my next patient is :)

My patient is on a ventilator and has to be suctioned. I have to get him out of bed in the mornings and get him in the shower chair and after his bathroom time i feed him breakfast then clean his trache, feeding tube, change his condom catheter and clean him up. Then back in the bed to finish dressing him and suctioning him. Then I get him in his wheelchair. He wears a sensor on the side of his face and a computer talks for him and all that has to be hooked up. When he is not on the computer we communicate with a chart that has the alphabet on it and he spells out the words as i point to the letter,he blinks twice if its the letter he wants. I feed him lunch and dinner and I prepare all his meals. I also do his laundry and anything else he may need. I also get him in the van if there is anywhere he needs to go.

My patient could not move his hands or arms so I had to do everything for him, Feeding him through his feeding tube, changing his condom catheter and cleaning him up after bathroom. All though he could move his legs he didn't have the muscle strength to get out of bed. I kept him company and gave him a lot of TLC.

I became a caregiver because of my mother, At the age of 10 my mother died and I couldn't do nothing to help her. So I decided to get in the medical field for that reason. I love being a caregiver because it is a passion of mine to see people smile, and live there life to the fullest. Some of my achievements are attending school for certification, and also I am now enrolled in school for Health Information Systems and Business Administration. I chose this field because I want to make sure the patients get the treatment, respect, and etc they deserve. I want to see people that take care of these patients act professionally, and treat the patients like the way they (caregivers) would want to be treated. Everybody tells me I have a wonderful personality, and they can tell I care about the patients needs. I like to have fun, spending time with family. I am here to help. I am a Certified Nursing Assistant and also have CPR and First Aid Card. I am very skilled in the following: • Range of Motion (ROMs) • Cancer Care • Hospice Care • Diabetes Care • Normal Activities for daily living better known as (ADLs) • Stroke Care • ODD • Respite Care • Respiratory Care • Spinal Injury Care • Long Term Care • ADHD • Down Syndrome Care • Assisted Living Care • Infant Care • Babysitting Services • Tube Feeding Care • Overnight Care • Spinal Injury Care • Tube Feeding Care • Nanny Services • Pain Management • Medication Aide • Mobility Care • Dementia (AKA Alzheimer's) • Cerebral Palsy • Autism • Any Many More I also can assist with errands, laundry, doctors’ Appointments, dishes, meal preparation, paper work, very skilled with computers and many more. My grandparents, as well as my great-grandparents, made a very strong impression on me. I enjoyed spending time with all of them in the summer. Goodness, kindness, and unconditional love from my sweet relatives taught me to be loving, caring, and considerate of my elders. After doing volunteer work at nursing homes, I really felt this was my special 'calling'. Now, I enjoy each and every day, learning from the elderly people that are in my care. Hope to hear from you soon!!
