I started as an Activities Coordinator at a Memory Care community and then advanced to become a Sales Counselor at an Assisted Living/Memory Care Community. I have a passion for serving seniors and especially love working with those who have neurological disease states such as Dementia or Alzheimer's. I paid (out-of-pocket) for "Core" Training to become an Executive Director at a Senior Living Community. I am looking for a part time opportunity and one that is somewhat flexible to supplement my income. I can provide reliable references as a testament to my dedication to serve the senior population! Before I discovered my passion, I was a marketing executive for 20 years.

I am 52 years old, married and a mother of three adult children. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education Degree 30 years ago and taught school before choosing to stay home to raise my children. Six years ago, I reentered the workplace as a merchandiser for a company that pays me well and is good to me. Nevertheless, I am changing careers because I feel called to be an in-home companion/caretaker to the elderly. My passion has always been in caring for others. My mom died last year of complications from Alzheimer's disease. In my life, I have enjoyed caring for many people in need: among them, two people recovering from open heart surgery (one, a friend, the second, my mom) and a 10-year-old boy wheelchair bound and reliant on a feeding tube. I started off in the business almost 10 years ago helping my mom with clients yardwork and chores and transportation. A little more than 7 years ago I began helping a man with arthritis. I helped him get his day going, straightened up and returned in the evening to put him to bed. I did rehab work in the afternoons. It keeps you on the go, and the days go quickly, which I like. I don't like just putting in hours with clients, I like doing things with them. I was a sales manager for 5 years but this work much more rewarding. People truly appreciate it when you help them. I like make life more manageable or improvements in their health, its good work. I have a lot of experience with gait belts. My use of this is easily my best contribution to the client. I have prevented dozens of falls, and that is something to hang your hat on. No one falls with me.

I was a stay at home mom for 16 years with my triplet girls. During that time I helped with my father who had dementia, so that he could comfortably stay in his own home with my mom. For three years I have been an in home caregiver to a stroke survivor who recently passed. I do laundry, prepare light meals, bathe, help with personal needs, give medication, drive to appointments, and provide compassionate care and companionship. I moved my 91year old mother to Tucson. I feel I am rewarded with smiles and kind words. Being a caregiver has been extremely rewarding. During the past few years, I have assisted clients with grocery shopping, appointments,medicine management,moves,cooking,clothing & shoe shopping,organizing,laundry, run errands,and most of all being a companion.
