I developed a love for healthcare because my mom is a registered nurse and my grandma is a cancer survivor. Hello!! My name is Kaytland (Katie) and i am a single mother with two children. I have been in the United States Army for over 17 years and will be transitioning soon into full-time civilian lifestyle. I have availability to work odd shifts if need be. Caring for others is a passion of mine. With being the eldest child and caregiver for numerous elderly family members; it allowed be to gain the knowledge and experience in this area. I am disciplined, organized, great at blending/molding to different personality types and different situations. I have also worked Armed Security for years so comfort and security is something else i can provide. I love playing games, arts and crafts, going on walks, etc and am more than willing to occupy someone's time with healthy activities. I am a certified PCA/HCAA whose passion has always been in the medical field. I'm very interested in keeping my education and getting into medical school to become a doctor for the NICU. I knew what I wanted to be career wise since the 6th grade. I am 20 years old and recently signed into the Air Force for medic back in December.

My qualities are being attentiveness, dependable and trustworthy. I learned these qualities over the year while working with children. What attracted me to being a caregiver was my clinical experience in nursing school. I worked with older adults and loved all the knowledge I gained sitting there and talking to them. I enjoyed being my patients' caregiver because the smile on their face every time I came in made my day run smoothly. I was able to interact with my patients one on one, give them their morning and afternoon medications and assist with their baths. As I mentioned, I enjoyed the talks, I feel as though they do not always have a companion to talk to but I enjoyed listening to their stories. My grandparents lived in Nigeria and I never had that grandparent experience. I learned a lot working with them. Learning how to take blood pressure from older adult was an achievement I am proud of because it was very frustrating at first. Older adults sometimes have faint pulses and it is very difficult to hear it. I would have to try more than once to get an accurate result. As I kept practicing daily, I got the hang of it.

I have been a cna for 17yrs only because i like and care for people. It makes me feel better as a person knowing im helping. I have workec at hospitals, nursing homes as well as home health care.

This year, I will be graduating from the University at Buffalo in WNY and I am planning on moving to the Washington, DC area after graduation in May. For the past two years, I have been a home care aide to a wheelchair-bound patient with cerebral palsy. I also have experience caring for my elderly grandmother who suffered from Stage 4 acute myeloid leukemia in 2016. I have also studied exercise science and biology for the past four years, giving me great knowledge of human mobility, anatomy, physiology, and nutrition. As of now, I am working as a student intern at New York Presbyterian Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic helping patients who endured a cardiac event or have heart disease to adopt a healthy lifestyle and implement exercise and nutrition regimens into their daily life. I plan on going into medicine in the future, but for right now I want to pursue my passion of helping people through a job as a caregiver. I care for any person as if they are my own family, whether it be in the rehab clinic, as an aide, or anybody who needs my help and companionship. I have an excellent track record of keeping to an organized way of life and very hand with house projects. I have worked in the cooperate nursing care but it's quite broken because it's about money.
