What makes me a great caregiver is my innate emphasis on the virtue and value of empathy. I may be physically strong, however my emotional strength is probably even more immense. I am a resilient, courageous, sensitive, compassionate and kind, which attracts me to the work of being a caregiver. What I enjoy most about this work is that it is heart-based and that I get to actually connect with human beings on a true level, additionally those who have already had plenty of life experience. A personal achievement I am proud of is having become a licensed EMT, whether or not I've pursued it as a career. And also that I am knowledgeable and familiar with complex mental health situations. I have a desire to serve, however I believe that my service should come with a true purpose rather than personal gain, so I look forward to helping out those who can use truly use my assistance. I became a caregiver when I needed to care for my 86 year old mother, who had dementia and other physical ailments relative to aging. It was then I realized all the really personal needs of the elderly, especially companionship, understanding & loving care. Being a caregiver I feel it fills the need to be of service, especially the elderly who need so much care. Almost a complete vegan, I as a gourmet cook, and have a passion for cooking, I utilized a best seller cookbook, and actually tried & ate at least 20+ receipes so far. It has enabled me to be more energetic as well as kept me slim. However, I still enjoy "traditional" cooking & will adhere to any food restrictions as well. Personally I am a lover of life itself! I love music, the theatre, movies, gardening, designing, & of course cooking. I make an effort to socialize with my good friends, get to church every Sunday & try to excercise and get lots of sleep! I enjoy reading and traveling when I can. As a retired Senior Account Executive of 20 years, I have earned the right to say I am a "people person". I have lots of patience with the elderly and always have a sense of humor with them. I become their friend & companion in time & I am extremely well read on the illness of dementia/altzheimers. I easily meet all their needs in the household as being a former homeowner. My past experiences of over 11 years caring for the elderly have only added to my expertise in caring for them.
