I became a caregiver because I used to be very close to my grandmother when she was alive. I loved being not only her granddaughter, but a friend as well. I learned a lot about life from her, and she was like a breath of fresh air for me. Caring for her set me on my path to helping others long after she passed away. What I like best about being a caregiver is the friendship that can be procured. It is good to have the company, and makes me feel productive and needed. One of my greatest personal achievements was when I gave birth to my son Michael. I always dreamed of being a Mother and experiencing the joys that Motherhood brings. I am proud of my son and how nice of a person he grew up to be. My name is Vera and I am 55 years young lol. I have a degree in Special Education, and a certificate in Medical Assisting. I am hard working and love helping people. I have a sense of humor so watch out! However, I am serious about my job duties. I live with my Mother who is elderly. She misses my Father, and talks about him everyday. 3 years ago he passed away and I too, am still trying to get over it. My parents were my inspiration. I am so glad I was able to help my Father to the very end. I will always be there for my Mother and all the people that depend on me for companionship. That's what it's all about. I became a caregiver to provide myself with a foundation to be a nurse. I achieved my CNA and nursing certificate in psychiatric nursing specialty, with pharmacology. I went on to care for HIV /Aids patients and hospice. I have a wonderful calming and caring effect on people and have worked many outstanding cases. I was planning to get my PhD in psychology for psychologist, but I stuck with nursing as I loved it very much. I have worked from NY to San Diego and have been with one company for 20+ years. I went back to school for my BA in education, as I teach special education as well. I am always updating my psychiatric background and love learning. I have many wonderful success stories, including my patient who I was with for 4 years, as his private nurse, care manager and trainer for his caregivers. I work well independently and have great skills. I love to write and my English/Education background has helped me get published. I still write and plan to publish more work. I presently am a music reviewer and article writer for different publications. I am very diversified in skills, education and interests, but I am above all a people person who is dependable, professional, well skilled and well liked.
