As a young adult all I knew was my grandmother. She taught me everything I knew until she got sick. Her body started to break down and I had to take care of her. I prepared her meals, breakfast and dinner and gave her showers also dressed her. She got really bad and she was forced into a nursing home because nobody was able to give her the proper care she needed. She passed away in the nursing home. I felt nothing but guilt that I didn't have the skills to take care of her so she could be comfortable at her own home. So I made an effort to be the best CNA for others on this planet. So their families can get proper care in the comfort of their homes.

I am a former special education teacher with 38 years of experience. I left to be home more often with my 85-year-old father who lived with me and had dementia as well as other health concerns. He was the love of my life and I was determined to keep him home with me, but I needed to have some steady income. Prior to my father's passing a year ago, I took care of my mother as well. She had vascular dementia secondary to diabetes as well as other health concerns and was a very difficult person; however, my parents always took excellent care of me and now it was my turn to pay them back rather than turn my back. I was lucky to be in position to do this. I cooked, cleaned, did laundry, med management, took them to doctor appointments as far away as Hartford, administered weekly blood tests for INR levels, consulted with all agencies as needed (and took all phone calls) as well as every other aspect of running a household and managing a person's life. I loved every minute of it, although it was not without its challenges! I do believe that I can be a valuable asset to you.

I am interested in becoming a care giver mostly because I gain much satisfaction helping people. I have always been in these types of positions that I have found not only is one able to help another, but I've always enjoyed knowing I did something good each day I worked. My past experience includes being a social work and a teacher. I am very outgoing and love people. I am happy to say I've achieved many goals including raising two wonderful children, and attained both a bachelor's degree in social work and a masters degree in teaching. As a person who enjoys the opportunity to impact someone's life and make a difference to them I always knew I wanted to work in the healthcare field. I began working as a caregiver over 16 years ago and have continued on in this position, thriving on the opportunity to add value and appreciation towards the people I encounter on day to day basis.
