What are your personality traits or expertise that help you be a great caregiver? I am a compassionate, kind, loving, forgiving and understands individuals who are not feeling well, bed ridden or have lost most of their ability to move around, think or do the things they once enjoyed. I have learned to respond and not react to their change in character. Recognizing that it is the pain they are experiencing that brings about change in behaviors. This can help heal a lot of misunderstanding. What attracted you to being a care giver? My mother and her doctor(s), as well as working as a Medical Assistant caring for patients. I was attracted to caregiving growing up while watching my mother in and out of hospitals and her struggle with her health whihc affected her mentally, emotionally and physically. I was able to care for her during her illness. What do you enjoy most about being a caregiver? Knowing I have the opportunity to do the best I can to bring maybe a smile, a laugh, a hug, or the joy of conversations with those who need it the most and knowing that everything I do, say or think matters to that individual. This makes all difference. What is a personal achievement you are proud of? My personal achievement is that I most proud of is the opportunity that I was able to help both my parents through their illnesses and terminal ill duration. My time with them is priceless, it wasn't easy but it made me a better person.

Hello, I am a College Student, and my major is in Biology/Nursing. I always had the passion to help others and volunteered a lot growing up in the medical field. My Mom is a Cardiologist at Ben Taub Hospital. My passion is to help others of a sense of personal understanding and connection is vital. I understand elders that may feel vulnerable, scared, confused and uncomfortable, and being able to identify and allay these fears can create a sense of calm and trust for those being cared for. I have the patience and can provide high-quality care services. I am always on time and very dependable, and always have a personal attachment when caregiving. I have experience in administering medicine, and all medical equipment. My work experience came from Ben Taub Hospital, which is the best teaching hospital in Houston! I am very trustworthy and a happy person. My future goal is to become a great nurse and help change lives.

I have been working as a caregiver to elderly people for the past 8 years on weekends and weekday evenings. My full time job is lead counselor at a local 6A high school. I began caregiving after my divorce for supplemental income after a divorce but fell in love with it. I have cared for multiple patients and come with verifiable references. I am very compassionate and caring for others. I pay attention to detail and I am great a planning and scheduling. I am easy going and flexible in tasks. I really enjoy helping others and putting a smile on their face. All throughout school I would go volunteer in the special needs classrooms to hang out and play with them, and to show them love and friendship. I have a happy, bubbly personality. I love to laugh and have fun. I cared for my mother for 2 years. She was completely blind so I cared for her 24/7. I assisted with taking her to the bathroom, bathing, dressing, brushing teeth, brushing hair, incontinence . Washed/ dried clothes, linens, towels, grocery shopping, cooking all meals, washing dishes. Cleaning the house, vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping. Administered medications. Driving her to all doctor appointments, kept track of all doctor diagnosis. Worked with home health agency - coordinated all nurse, PT, OT, speech/memory therapist, Commission for the blind visits. Paid bills and reconciled bank accounts and any other financial business. Offered companionship, friendship. Finalized all burial matters. Cared for my brother for 1 year. He was a Vietnam Veteran. Dealt with the VA regarding his health care and a fiduciary for his Military pension. I was his representative payee for Social Security benefits. He had agent orange, loss of cartilage in his knees and couldn't walk, neuropathy, diabetes, liver disease/failure cancer, high ammonia levels causing confusion, memory loss and violent tendencies. He was very challenging - personal care was handled by my husband (I was his little sister and he would not allow me to care for him in that manner). Worked with home health care agency like my mother. Worked with hospice. Helped care for my husband's father for 4 months. Brought my father in-law home from nursing home where he was placed on hospice immediately. He had three strokes requiring stents. Last stroke paralyzed his right arm and leg and impaired his speech Managed all doctor, hospice nurse, therapist visits. Insured that all necessary medical equipment was ordered and delivered - hospital beds, shower benches, wheel chairs, walkers, breathing equipment, oxygen tanks, etc. for all three relatives.

I became a caregiver 19 years ago when my father passed and I took care of him after that I knew that is what I wanted to do take care of people that were in pain I had no one to take care of them this was my calling I love what I do and I wouldn't do anything else I have feelings very passionate people I take care of

I am 53, single, and my child is grown. He is my biggest accomplishment because they told me that he would never walk or talk. He was born a little early due to a car accident and had to have emergency brain surgery at 15 hours old. He is 21, and walks and talks with only a mild case of cerebral palsy. My social work career took a back seat because there just wasn't enough of me to go around. When I tried to enter back into that field, the lack of services to offer made it impossible and heartbreaking, so I ventured off into restaurant management. I stayed for many years until someone I loved needed me worse. And there I found my calling. I have worn many hats. I have a degree in Social Work but no license. I have a certificate in Chemical Dependency counseling and no desire to use it. I have a Restaurant Management license and I'm sure with Covid now that thing is worthless. I am currently enrolled in an online college working on certification to obtain my medical billing and coding credentials so that I can work part time remotely. My goal is to have one or two people to be a caregiver to so I can feel good in my heart and get out of the house some but yet protect us both by not being exposed and potentially getting us sick. I live in Flint and I'd like to find someone close to take care of for both of our sake.
