I took care of my friend while he was reviving from Cancer in 2016 - 2017. I cleaned, cooked, medication reminder and helped him recover from surgery. My previous experience included assisting clients with dementia, Alzheimer's and physical challenges in their homes. I graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor's degree in psychology and two minors in human development and sociology. Since then I have been working for a residential care agency with adult family homes and single individual apartments. I began as a caregiver and moved up to a site supervisor and eventually an area supervisor. As an area supervisor I manage eight special needs clients and 25 staffing caregivers. I am looking to change my job and do private caregiving as it will be closer to my home. I absolutely love being a caregiver and I cannot imagine myself doing anything else. I am a great caregiver because I understand that one of the most important parts included in the care provided to an individual is companionship. Companionship is such an important part in care because a real human connection helps with mental and emotional well being. Taking care of physical well being is incredibly important but is only half the job. I learned this while caring for my grandmother near the end of her life. My experience started with her and moved on to caring for a wonderful woman named Majorie until she had to go into assisted living. After that I got a job working at a day program for adults with developmental disabilities. Each person I have cared for has taught me so much about doing my job better. They have taught me about caring for the whole person, not just their physical needs but their mental and emotional needs as well. I received my NA-C last summer through new chapters in healthcare. I really loved doing clinical in the mental health / dementia wing of the nursing home we visited as it is an area of interest for me! I have my mental health training, dementia training, nurse delegations, nurse delegations diabetes, BLS, HIV/AIDS, first aide, and CPR certifications. I love animals! Especially my sweet golden retriever. I am actually currently in the processes of training her to be a therapy dog. As a former stay at home parent for 4 years I loved taking care of my small children. A caregiver is a soul friend and family member brought in during a time of physical need.
