The number one thing I enjoy most about being a caregiver is knowing that I'm helping to make someone else's day just that much easier and or enjoyable. I've met some of the most interesting and grateful people working in my role as a caregiver. Whether it was a simple task that has to be done or one that requires a little more skillfulness, at the end of it all was improved quality of life for someone in need. I love cooking and being creative in the kitchen, trying new recipes and learning from more experienced cooks. Gardening and growing my own food feeds right into that love for cooking nutritional meals. Watching others enjoy them is a bonus. I'm compassionate, a good listener and understanding. Everyone has a story to tell and I'm happy to slow down and engage. One personal achievement I'm proud of is going back to school and getting my Associate Degree. I'd been on and off with college for a very long time and it felt good to stick with a topic of interest until the end. It's introduced me to like-minded people and continues to help me in my volunteer ventures in our community and food system.

I'm very much a people person & highly empathetic. I knew I wanted to be a caretaker/Nurse since high school working as a volunteer in local hospital. I come from a family of caretakers so it's in my genetics. I've done many aspects of caregiving from rooming patients in local clinic to skilled unit in nursing facility & Alzheimer's unit. I love geriatric care due to the respect I have for the elderly. They've earned it for surviving through hardships I've only read about & learned in history class, which brings me to the fact that they have the best stories to tell if able to. I take pride in my care & the bigger the challenge it is with not so happy clients/patients I manage to get them to open up a bit & do my best to turn there frown upside down raising there spirits up. I welcome new challenges & learning about something new especially if it helps my care towards my patient. Dementia/Alzheimer's care is my specialty.

I am a very outgoing person. Big personality, goofy/bright all around! I love working with my clients and getting to know them as a person and not just a client. I began wanting to become a caregiver when I was 17yrs old, because my grandmother was in a nursing home and wasn't treated right. As soon as I got old enough to go to school for caregiving I did !! I previously worked as a CNA for 7 years in Nursing homes, assisted living facilities, Rehab facilities and Disabled homes. I have been a nurse for 5 years at Aurora Healthcare working as a float nurse in OB/GYN, behavioral health, pediatrics, family practice and internal medicine. I recently started a new position with St Elizabeth hospital in the heart and lung unit. I previously took care of a paraplegic man in his home for 3 years with a hoyer lift. I would go to his home every morning before work and give him a shower/ get him ready for the day and give him any meds or apply any topicals he may have needed. I loved doing this, I am capable and I am more than willing to help where help is needed. I currently work Monday-Thursday 830:430. I would be willing to help any times outside of those hours. Throughout my life I have always been a caregiver. Home health in Rochester MN started my first paid position as a care giver. Over the past 9 years I have cared for my elderly parents from the onset of terminal illness through hospice prompting me to obtain my CNA certificate where I graduated validictorian. I have also spent my life caring for those with disabilities as I have and older brother who was born mentally disabled. 1) I became a caregiver because I desired to help people as best as I could with the education that I had at the time. When I began I was only a CNA but now that I have furthered my education I can do more, but I still love to be able to meet people where they are and help them with day to day needs. 2) I like being a caregiver because you're not only able to help the client but the entire family all at once. The more you get to know your client and the family the better care you can take of the client and find the best way to do it. 3) I am very proud of passing Fire training and state exams, this was something that a lot of people had told me I wasn't going to be able to do because of my size and gender. Passing state exams made me realize that you can do whatever you tell yourself you can, it doesn't matter what anyone else says, no matter their position. 4) I am a down to earth person who looks out for the best interest in the client, and helping families come to agreements on whats best for the client.

Hi my name is Lauren and I have been a Nursing Assistant for two years. I love helping people of any ability and age which is what brought me to become a Nursing major. I enjoy getting to spend time with my clients and make them as comfortable as I can. Something that I am proud of being able to adapt to new situations quickly and speaking both Spanish and English!

I became a care giver because my love to help others. I volunteered at the local nursing homes, veterans hospital and at church. Why do I like being a caregiver? I would have to say being able to help others and the history in the hearts and minds of my patients. I learn more from first hand accounts of the individuals who have live it. What is a personal achievement I am most proud of? I served in the military as a hospital corpsman for 5 years. I was deployed during Desert Storm and was able to educate and save all the marines under my care. I am thoughtful and loyal. My experiences and knowledge have further confirmed why I love what I do. Being a good Dad and Gpa are very important to me.

I have a passion for caring for people, especially the elderly. I have a lot experience with dementia patients and I love the work I do! I very much enjoy the time I can spend with my residents and the stories they tell me! I am very proud to say that the management in the facility I currently work in has acknowledged the quality of care I provide and have rewarded me with a raise and new title.
