I first work in hospitals and didn't get to spend as much time getting know my client's and felt like something was missing so I started working in group homes and long-term care facilities. I have always loved to work in a geriatric setting, but I moved into hospital work and have been an ICU Technician, a pharmacy technician, cardiac technician, and most recently obtained a degree in Surgical Technology! Being a Caregiving is an extremely rewarding job. As a Caregivers I take care of our elders, the people who have given so much to this world. Taking care of people is something I'm very proud of. ... Some residents become lonely or sad, but being a great caregiver helpsthem change there mood for the better. What I enjoy most about caregiving is getting to help other people in there time of need.

An experienced Caregiver

I feel like I am a good caregiver because when my dad turned 80 he needed extra help because he started forgetting some stuff. Started to get Alzheimer's. So I began helping him with medication, cooking, cleaning, laundry, errands, doctor appointments, bill paying etc. Sometimes I would find myself at his home 4-5 times a day answering questions over and over again or just to keep him company. He had some amazing stories of his life so I overstayed my visits. It was great! He passed away at 90. Then my sister started having medical problems when she turned 65. I did the same for her and would spend a lot of time with her as well. I cleaned her home, did her laundry and took her to doctor appointments. I kept her company at the hospital as often as I could. We spent a lot of time on the phone. It helped so she wasn't so bored. I enjoyed the time I spent with both of them. It made me feel useful. So after all the help I gave to both of them, I started to look into Caregiving. It's a great career. To help others is great!
