Hello! I'm a 51 yr old female with 10+ years as a caregiver and Home Health Aide. Five of those years I was a personal caregiver to my parent with dementia/alzheimers. I started out as a state tested nurse aide in a nursing home with a memory care unit. My duties included bathing the residents, linen changing, feeding, denture care, personal hygiene, assistance with light exercise, etc. I then went on to become a home health aide and assisted Seniors in their own homes. This was my favorite part of caregiving and met many wonderful people. During my visits I would help them bathe, style their hair, trim nails, etc. I would also prepare healthy meals and provide companionship. I would perform light housekeeping and laundry services. I would provide transportation to doctors appointments and grocery shopping. My visits also included medication reminders, watering houseplants and feeding pets. For me, being a caregiver isn't just a career. It's my calling in life. I feel as though it's what I was put here to do. My very first job at age 18 was as a caregiver for a lady with MS. I cared for her as a live in for nearly three years with one day off weekly. I then moved to direct care for disabled individuals and have accumulated several years experience. I am certified in first aid/ CPR, medication administration, insulin trained, and have a wide path of experience to fall back on. I was also caregiver for my mother for five years until she passed from ALZ. I am currently attending college studying Human and Social Services to better provide for those I work with and for. I believe that being a caregiver requires a special individual, just as special as those I care for. I have always felt that the individuals I have met and worked with have each been a blessing in their own way and I am the lucky one for having them in my heart and life. I view my clients as family, nothing less. I am dedicated, sincere, patient, full of good humor, not easily upset, and my greatest joy is making others happy. That's the biggest benefit of all.
