I took interest in Caregiving 27 years ago when I needed to earn extra money on top of my regular place of employment. Since then I've worked both for an agency and also do private caregiving. Caregiving is now my full time job. I enjoy and find it very rewarding to help someone in need and hope that someday if needed I'll have someone with my abilities and personality to care for me. I find it very rewarding to be there for someone in need and to also meet new people. I once was told that you cannot make caregiving personal and I absolutely disagree with that. The client becomes your friend whom relies on you for so much. My personal achievement that I'm most proud of is becoming the hard working caring mom and grandma that I am. I love making people happy

I feel like I am a good caregiver because when my dad turned 80 he needed extra help because he started forgetting some stuff. Started to get Alzheimer's. So I began helping him with medication, cooking, cleaning, laundry, errands, doctor appointments, bill paying etc. Sometimes I would find myself at his home 4-5 times a day answering questions over and over again or just to keep him company. He had some amazing stories of his life so I overstayed my visits. It was great! He passed away at 90. Then my sister started having medical problems when she turned 65. I did the same for her and would spend a lot of time with her as well. I cleaned her home, did her laundry and took her to doctor appointments. I kept her company at the hospital as often as I could. We spent a lot of time on the phone. It helped so she wasn't so bored. I enjoyed the time I spent with both of them. It made me feel useful. So after all the help I gave to both of them, I started to look into Caregiving. It's a great career. To help others is great!

When I was younger my grandparents struggled with diabetes and I remember always being there with them mentally and physically so ever since then i've wanted to help others who couldn't do everything by themselves. I have been a CNA for about 5 years now and it has always been a passion of mine to become a nurse someday to help those in need much more. Throughout the years working as a CNA I have really come to love helping others and being there for them when they feel helpless and lonely. I have lost patients on the way and when it comes down to it as much as you don't want it to bother you it truly does. I have always had a passion for what I do and when I lose those that I'm helping it does hurt me, but I'm always proud for being there to help them when no one else could.
