This is my 35th year as a caregiver and I believe God asked me to do as I do. I believe every single person deserves to be treated as family. One day I may need someone to take care of me and I would want the same for myself. I believe respect should be given to every person. The patients, residents, clients, I care for for are always number one. I will always do what's in their best interest. I promise always to loyal. Hello my name is Joy Martin and I'm a native of Paducah, Ky. I have been providing good quality care to patients for 11years. I have assisted patients with ADL's,feedings,transfers, ect according to their care needs. I believe in showing compassion in what I do and also treating patients with dignity and respect. What attracted me to being a caregiver is that the pase is a little slower compared to nursing home. I enjoy that being one on one as a caregiver,it allows me to get a chance to really get to know my patients. I'm currently furthering my education in getting my LPN.

I have been trained to provide the proper care on bathing, transportation, medicine distribution, and ext. I feel like everyone needs a little help in life and being a mother of 3 I have realized I much enjoy being a caregiver. I have extensive experience in wound care for pressure ulcers and skin disorders. I am very easy going and patient and know how to help with mobility. I see so many people that either have no one at all or have people that cannot do the caregiving. It is not for everyone. what I enjoy most about caregiving is seeing people treated with dignity and like they matter, and not a burden. I am most proud of the fact that I was able to keep my Dad at home, and let him go peacefully at home, instead if a hospital or nursing home.

I received my CNA certificate after my maternal grandmother was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal breast cancer. Prior to her being placed on hospice I would watch what the nurses were doing and when small things would happen I would take over. Example her if would constantly alarm I watched and learned to reset it if the nurse was busy. After my grandmother was placed on hospice she said to me after me helping to care for her she whispered to me moments before passing "baby doll this is your calling, God has placed you here to care for others please peruse this field". And I did just that. I retained my CNA and worked in various nursing homes and always had an interest in death and dying units. I wanted to make them as comfortable and content as possible. I wanted to be there as much as I could for those who had family place them in nursing homes and never visit. I wanted to be there like family . which led me to the choice being offered to a patient that use to come into the ER routinely. Until family of that patient offered me to take care of him at home until his last days... I worked for a nursing home where we had a husband and wife in separate sections of the nursing home I worked with the husband more frequently than the wife but one morning I arrived at work and heard thru our morning meeting report that the wife had passed and they hadn't told the husband . I offered because I was very close to him . long story short family was not going to make arrangements for him to attend her funeral due to limitations he had ie him being in a wheelchair and then not having access to transportation to get him there. Short staffed at the home I offered on my day off to see to him getting to the funeral home church and grave site. It was hard I pushed him thru areas that were grassy muddy and not meant for travel in a wheel chair but I did it . I put myself in his shoes that did and did whatever it took.

Three years ago, my grandmother was diagnosed with Stomach and lung cancer. Shortly after her diagnosis, she had a stroke and was unable to do much of anything for herself. I took care of my grandparents until my grandma passed away last year. I realized that helping people was something that I really valued and took a job as CNA at the hospital and loved the work I did there. My favorite part was helping the patients to achieve things they thought that they couldn't by offering them an arm to hold onto and some encouraging words.

I am a compassionate, patient, dependable and honest caregiver with 8 years of experience. In my spare time, I enjoy writing, gardening, and horseback riding. I am a married mother of two grown, very responsible and respectful young men. I gain joy and a sense of family as a caregiver. God blessed me with the heart for this field.
