This is my 35th year as a caregiver and I believe God asked me to do as I do. I believe every single person deserves to be treated as family. One day I may need someone to take care of me and I would want the same for myself. I believe respect should be given to every person. The patients, residents, clients, I care for for are always number one. I will always do what's in their best interest. I promise always to loyal. I can promise you I do know what I'm doing and lots of others have told me that. My work shows how much I truly care. I have been noticed by families.

I have been trained to provide the proper care on bathing, transportation, medicine distribution, and ext. I feel like everyone needs a little help in life and being a mother of 3 I have realized I much enjoy being a caregiver. I enjoy being a caregiver, because I love being apart of someone's life that I can help them live out thier life happy an successful. I enjoy the stories I hear. The caring of another. I'm very proud by the end of the day, week, or month that I have achieved accomplishments of a client's needs, and goals in life. Making someone time better.

I am an outgoing individual, so it helps me connect with residents easier, I am not just a caregiver, but a friend as well to my residents. I wanted to become a caregiver because when my grandmother was ill I always wanted to help take care of her and assist her. I enjoy helping people who are unable to assist themselves anymore. It makes me feel good knowing I can make a difference in their lives.

I received my CNA certificate after my maternal grandmother was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal breast cancer. Prior to her being placed on hospice I would watch what the nurses were doing and when small things would happen I would take over. Example her if would constantly alarm I watched and learned to reset it if the nurse was busy. After my grandmother was placed on hospice she said to me after me helping to care for her she whispered to me moments before passing "baby doll this is your calling, God has placed you here to care for others please peruse this field". And I did just that. I retained my CNA and worked in various nursing homes and always had an interest in death and dying units. I wanted to make them as comfortable and content as possible. I wanted to be there as much as I could for those who had family place them in nursing homes and never visit. I wanted to be there like family . which led me to the choice being offered to a patient that use to come into the ER routinely. Until family of that patient offered me to take care of him at home until his last days... I worked for a nursing home where we had a husband and wife in separate sections of the nursing home I worked with the husband more frequently than the wife but one morning I arrived at work and heard thru our morning meeting report that the wife had passed and they hadn't told the husband . I offered because I was very close to him . long story short family was not going to make arrangements for him to attend her funeral due to limitations he had ie him being in a wheelchair and then not having access to transportation to get him there. Short staffed at the home I offered on my day off to see to him getting to the funeral home church and grave site. It was hard I pushed him thru areas that were grassy muddy and not meant for travel in a wheel chair but I did it . I put myself in his shoes that did and did whatever it took.

I have worked in skilled nursing homes, assisted living homes, hospitals, Alzheimer's units, and my personal favorite in home settings. I have had CNA certification, med tech, first aid and CPR, diabetic care training, wound care, and more. I take great pride in my work. It's more than a paycheck to me. I graduated high school with my CNA license and shortly after started my first job at Hardinsburg Nursing and rehab center. It was extremely stressful but very rewarding. I learned a lot from not only my co-workers but the residents I looked after. This job gave me the opportunity to further learn about medical issues and how I could help ease the pain or simply take their mind off of it. Shorty after leaving this job I started working as a caregiver at the BeeHive homes of Grayson county which is an assisted living facility in Kentucky. The BeeHive was a much more positive environment and allowed me to grow personal relationships with the people I cared for. The BeeHive is half the size with double the manpower which allows the caregivers to take breaks and actually get to know who we are caring for, their life story, their family and so much more. I love working with my residents because when I have some life problem I'm telling them about they have all kinds of wisdom to share.
