I really enjoy helping people, and improving their quality of life. I've been working in healthcare since 1999, and feel I bring a wealth of experience to the job. I have a wonderful sense of humor (which I feel is a necessity) and I love to hear a client's story. I have had Systemic Lupus for several years, so I would prefer not to due a lot of heavy lifting. I would assess on a case by case basis.

I am very compassionate and empathetic. I have taken care of others for many years including family members suffering from dementia as well as other cognitive and physical disorders. I enjoy helping others obtain happiness and contentment while being able to live in a home setting. The best part of being a care giver is the personal reward. My proudest personal achievement is being a mom and nana.

Let me start by writing about what I know. No matter how much excellent medical and/or psychological care and loving support a person may receive, the person who is facing challenges inevitably feels fragile and experiences a crisis of confidence. Total care only begins at the bedside. The whole environment becomes part of the treatment plan, with a goal of encouraging the person remain engaged in the day to day decisions and activities that govern his or her life. The next thing I know is that, regardless of how smart I think I am, that person with challenges has his or her own agenda and will put every effort into achieving those goals. This deserves great respect. This requires negotiation. This requires a sense of humor. This requires open minds. This is what I know. And since every situation is different, there is no cookie cutter big enough to consider all the possibilities for care and support. Every case depends on intelligent decisions, patience, and cooperation. All laced with healthy doses of kindness.

I am a very patient person who loves to connect with new people. I take care of children during the week so I am used to doing certain tasks more than others. My step father is where my experience comes from, as he is a much older gentleman.

I became a caregiver to help others in their time of need and give the best care possible. I enjoy helping others and also being inspired to be my best in what I do in life and the career I chose. I have a criminal justice degree, management experience, a NY CNA certificate (17 yrs), and I recently graduated from school for my LPN, I have not taking the state exam yet, but will very soon. 1 why did I become a caregiver....I was a caregiver way before I became certified I think I was 13 when I started caring for people its in my nature to help because I love it. it makes me feel good I can help someone that cant help themselves 2 what do I like about being a caregiver....I like helping people I like learning about the person because everybody is different there stories there history where they came from rich/poor how they got to where they are what they use to do 3 what is my personal achievement that I am proud of .....I would say my CNA CERT because the first time I tried to do the training I ended up with pneumonia so I tried it again got all the way to the testing part and ended up late started early but ended up behind a school bus in the middle of winter and made me late so I was failed so tried a 3rd time and passed at the top of my class with 100% 4 tell something about myself ....I started out in factory work and hated it wanted something that was always changing something that I could grow with so in 1995 I took myself and a friend to an agency to do there HHA training and passed and in Nov of 2012 took a CNA training and passed I would like to go to school for dental assisting next or massage therapy

My strongest attribute is compassion, patience, and humility. Growing up, I was influenced by my maternal grandmother, who was a Missionary in the Church of Jesus Christ. She would bring strangers to our home all the time, especially during holidays. I learned how you can change a person's mood & life, just by being compassionate. This in itself, attracts me to showing humanistic qualities, and I enjoy making others feel a sense of worth. I have had many struggles of my own in life, too many to name one, as they were all a journey of achievements. Notably, I was the US Navy and survived Dessert Storm from 1988-1992. Some of the affect of being in the service qualified my as a disabled veteran. But it never stopped me from developing my skills as a caregiver.
