I grew up without grandparents. I have seen how the elderly can get mis treated and abused because they are so vulnerable. I love being around older people . I have a passion for taking care of the elderly. I've always been a very active person my whole life and taking care of them warms my heart, keeps me young and on my toes. They have so much knowledge and wisdom about life through there experiences . I currently am a caregiver for a older couple who have been married for 65 years . I've been with them for over 3 years now. I absolutely love them like if they were my own grandparents. And they love me just the same. I always treat my clients as if they were my own family . Because one day I myself am going to need the time and attention that I do give to my clients now. Do the elderly want to be dependent on someone else . Absolutely not and it does affect there emotions. But showing them patience and love and kindness will go along way with them. Being a care giver is one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had. When your client looks at you and tells you they love you . They're saying it because they truly want to not because they have too. I am also a certified nursing assistant. I also familiar with incontinence and exporting . All ADLs , medication distribution, cooking and cleaning ,bathing dressing and grooming. I can run errands . I can transport to docs appts . I'm also familiar with wound care. And using hoist lifts . I love to make people smile and feel good about themselves and it makes me feel good about myself . My name is Savannah Hicks. Im 23 years old. I've worked as a caregiver for 4 years, 6mths in a nursing home 3 & 1/2 in a hospital. I chose to become a caregiver when in college trying to decide on my career path, I wasn't sure if I wanted to be a counselor or a nurse so i decided to do some volunteer work at a nursing home. I ended up getting a job there & fell in love with caring for others. I've seen & dealt with a lot in the short time I've been in the medical field. Long story short I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer when my son was 7mths old, I had to have 2 different surgeries & undergo radiation. I'm now in remission & couldn't be more thankful to have the rest fo my life to spend with my beautiful little boy & serve others. I pray everyday for God to mold me into the person hes called me to be, & help bring other closer to him. Caring for others is definitely one of my callings in life & I'm more than happy to be seeing others.
