Being a caregiver is rewarding it gives me satisfaction and a good feeling to be able to assist elders with things they can no longer do for themselves. I treat them as I would treat my own family members. Treat them with respect and let them know I am there to help them, not take away from their dignity. Just let them know they have someone who cares about them.

The reason I became a caregiver is because I always helped take care of my grand mother she had Alzheimer's before she died,so I know how the elderly need someone loving and caring to help them . I am a natural nurturing person. I I decided at a very young age that I wanted to be a nurse or a doctor. I had a grandmother that suffered from Alzheimer's disease for 13 years. Majority of the time that she was sick I cared for her. I always knew I needed to get into the health field because I saw how important it is to have a support system. When you have someone in your family who can no longer take care of themselves it seems to have a ripple effect with everyone surrounding them. At some point we could no longer take care of my grandmother in the house so we had to hire a home health aide and in doing so I really grew to appreciate the nature of the job. You become an extended family member you grow great bonds with your clients or patients and their familes. I love being an aide.

I have been a caregiver for 8 years. Before that I was a Dietary Director for an upscale assisted linlving and a Cafe Manager. I have always enjoyed working with seniors and others that need in-home care. I have been trained in CPR and First=aid. I have been fully vaccinated. Have a clean/clear background check and driving record. I enjoy camping, gardening and art. I go to school part time but it's very flexible. I have 1 son and have been married for 18 years. My caregiving experience began as the oldest daughter of eleven children. After raising two sons I went back to school and first received a certificate as a Care Aide, and continued school, I received a certificate in Gerontology, a 10 month course, consisting of 52 university credits. I have always loved working with seniors and until recently I worked for a woman 12 years who lived at home until she was too unwell. Once she was in Institutional Care I continued to provide special care for her, such as feeding and companionship. My career did branch out, I worked 26 years as a Special Education Assistant working primarily with profoundly handicapped children in school. I retired five years ago and I am anxious to provide loving professional care once again.
