The qualities that help me with elderly care are being energetic, compassionate and understanding. I was an activities assistant for a nursing home. I was often a companion to many residents. I enjoyed sitting with residents. We watched their favorite shows, read magazines, played games, etc. I love the connection I had with my residents. I also enjoyed the humor and carefree spirit of my residents. I had several achievements while working with residents. My favorite was of a lady that didn't like being around anyone. I began to visit her and she slowly began responding. After several weeks, we became friends and I would sit and talk about her family. One day, I invited her to Bingo and she accepted. She truly enjoyed it and I was so happy!

When a loved one went into rehab after being in the hospital and finding that the level of care he received while in the nursing home was awful I swore I would help those who needed genuinely good care. I was able to witness those who were not treated fairly and could not speak up for themselves in these homes and family members who were caught between a rock and a hard spot not being able to be there or care for their loved one in their home, my heart went out to them. I love helping people and putting a smile on someone's face. My cases have involved dealing with dementia patients, patients with mobility issues, bed ridden, hospice care and just someone who needs a friend to listen and someone who really cares about them. I am proud to say that those families that I have cared for have been very happy with my services That puts a smile on my face and says I've done a job well done.
