Actually, I am a Registered Nurse. Characteristics: dependable, honest, independent, optimistic, hard-working, encouraging, a problem solver, a good listener and communicator. I became interested in health care when I was 10 years old and in the hospital over Christmas having had an emergency appendectomy. My mom worked for a doctor (earning $1 an hour) and was always telling us about interesting cases and teaching us strange sounding medical terminology. Most of my nursing career was in a Medical Intensive Care Unit at Ohio State University Medical Center. After that exciting career, I started working in Home Health in 2008. I enjoy working 1 on 1 with my clients, offering encouragement, seeing that they are receiving proper care, and hearing their life stories.
Skills & Certifications: ALS, Alzheimer's Disease, Registered Nurse (RN), Arthritis, Blood Disorders, Cardiovascular Disorders, COPD, Dementia, Depression, Diabetes, Cancer Recovery, Gastrointestinal Disorders, Hearing Disorders, HIV/AIDS, Home Health Care, Hospice Care, Neurological Disorders, Palliative Care, Post Surgery Recovery, Renal and Urological Disorders, Respiratory Disorders, Stroke, Tracheotomy / Ventilation

I am going on my third year of college, and my third college as well. I am finishing up my surgical nursing degree at Marion Technical College with a Surgical Technician certification and a phlebotomy certification as well. I have spent time in caring for my grandmother while she was in and out of the hospital, and I will provide compassionate care to those who need. My job as a future nurse is to provide comfort and love to patients varying different health conditions. My ideal job profession in the future is to work in hospice as well. When I was younger, I had a heart disease and my life-long goal is to give back to nurses and patients with 110% passionate and sympathetic care.

For me, being a caregiver isn't just a career. It's my calling in life. I feel as though it's what I was put here to do. My very first job at age 18 was as a caregiver for a lady with MS. I cared for her as a live in for nearly three years with one day off weekly. I then moved to direct care for disabled individuals and have accumulated several years experience. I am certified in first aid/ CPR, medication administration, insulin trained, and have a wide path of experience to fall back on. I was also caregiver for my mother for five years until she passed from ALZ. I am currently attending college studying Human and Social Services to better provide for those I work with and for. I believe that being a caregiver requires a special individual, just as special as those I care for. I have always felt that the individuals I have met and worked with have each been a blessing in their own way and I am the lucky one for having them in my heart and life. I view my clients as family, nothing less. I am dedicated, sincere, patient, full of good humor, not easily upset, and my greatest joy is making others happy. That's the biggest benefit of all. Thanks for listening! - Lori

Hello! My name is Emily Thornton, I am 20 years old. I have lived most of my life in Delaware, OH. Since I was little, I have enjoyed working with older adults. I enjoy listening to the stories they have to tell. Being a caregiver has been amazing - I have worked with many wonderful clients. Through my work and educational experience, I have gained a lot of knowledge about older adults and the needs they have. In the future, I would like to be a social worker for the aging population. Currently, I am studying Social Work at The Ohio State University. I will be completing my internship at the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging. Working with older adults has been a passion for me! I would love to get to know you and your loved one and find out ways I can help!
