My personality traits that help me be an excellent caregiver are; empathy, attentiveness, sense of humor and supportive. What attracted me to becoming a caregiver was seeing how my mother took care of her mother when I was a little girl. Witnessing that instilled a desire in me to do the same for my own mother if and when she needs me in that way. My mother not only took care of my grandmother but she checked on the elderly, family or not, if someone needed help she was there and to this day presents the same urgency. I enjoy knowing that I am able to give someone relief and the assurance that they are safe and will be taken care of. A personal achievement that I am proud of is proving to myself that I am resilient when trials have been thrown my way.

My name is Delores I am 37 years old and I have been doing caring for almost 7 years. I have worked at a retirement home for a few years and I also worked with individuals that have a disabilities. I love helping others with their day to day living. I love being outdoors going on hike and swimming. I enjoy learning new things I do have a scrapbook hobby that I like to sit the house and enjoy listening to gospel music and watching movies. I'm a loving and caring person. I have a lot patience and can help encourage others.

My dad was a 32 year retired military officer and a Green Beret. For 7 years, until his passing, I was responsible for all aspects of daily care. Included were meals, medication allocation, diabetes testing, transportation, (unfortunately he spent 5 years in a wheelchair) applications for making the home safe, wound care due to 4 major surgeries (some surgeries related to purple hearts from decades ago) dozens of minor surgeries due to agent orange/cancer, hygiene, house keeping, physical therapy, Dementia, Alzheimer's, depression, monitored vital sign, bed making, received physician's order, coordinated with hospital, physicians and physical therapist for monthly checks, perform first aide, kept him socially engaged by going to outside events i.e. restaurants, ball games, events and activities. I have always had a desire for helping people especially the elderly. It's been a very rewarding career choice that I have always enjoyed doing. Knowing that I can help promote a person's well being towards maintaining their independence is rewarding to me. When I worked with a dementia client, helped to recall some of her memories through writing and reading exercises. My sister had many health problems in which; I encouraged her through daily functions similar to what she would do at home, helped with her transition from home to nursing home. Also, when I received my certification in nursing. I am a christian, loving,caring,devoted,reliable,efficient,responsible and love unity of family. My hobbies are reading, walking, meditate, pray, visit the sick and shut in, movies, love to volunteer my time helping those in need. I am a non smoker, do not drink alcohol, don't do any type of drugs. I have excellent references.
