My compassion got me wanting to first become a caregiver. i truly care for people especially those in need, if i can make them smile my heart sings. I am very attentive to the needs and changes that take place. i make myself aware of the emotional and or physical changes that take place with whom i am caring for. i am dependable and show up to provide the care that the person needs and is depending on. Most important i am trustworthy and will not breach that trust by taking advantage of whomever i am caring for.

My goal is to help conserve life and alleviate suffering. And I do this by keeping my patients as healthy, happy, active, safe and independent as possible.

I became a caregiver in 2005. I was a teacher, got laid off and wanted meaningful employment. I had nursing skills from my country of origin, where I was a RN; so I decided to try care giving which I find rewarding, I enjoying making a difference in someone's life who has loss their ability to do things for themselves and to better cope with whatever situation they are in. I also have experience with hospice care. I have experience with Alzheimer and Dementia care . Iam also on the IHHS nursing registry. I make sure the safety of the clients by clearing the pathway to avoid falling, i make sure to encourage client to apply all the doctors mandated like taking fluids or measure the fluid intake, to re-position client every 2 hrs to avoid bedsore, take vital signs, I do light housekeeping, laundry, prepare meals and medication, groceries and drive clients to appointments..Working with elderly or those who need care is my passion its like am at home with my family., its fulfilling to see the progress or improvement with the way i care, I work with love and compassion. The qualities that help me do good at my job are the respect and communication skills that I use to understand and get along with my clients. Learning about what they like and what they don't like. I choose this career because I enjoy helping others , seeing how they can improve with their health or even to keep them active as much as possible in a safe way. I really enjoy learning from my clients as well. My personal achievements that I have got from my career are the knowledge of understanding how to combine the meaning of being respectful, responsible , compassionate and most of it , patient with people. Especially the ones that are under my care.

what makes me a great caregiver is that I listen and pay attention to my clients. I became a certified nursing assistant to work with clients and make their lives a little bit easier. I like being a caregiver because things we do for our clients that we don't think twice about makes their entire day sometimes. Their happiness and appreciation is rewarding. My proudest achievement was passing my cna test.
