Hi, I'm Shawna, \"What makes me a great caregiver?\" I've raised six amazing children as a single mother and after 20 years of helping people feel good about themselves in the beauty industry, I took on the role of my 92 year old grandmother's caregiver. I cared for her for two years and I feel I've found my calling. I am, by nature, a very nurturing person so I'm in my element as a caregiver. I have excellent work ethics, I'm organized and very easy to get along with. I have a great respect for the elderly because they have paved the way for me and my children. I only pray that when my time comes, my children will take as good a care of me.

I'm a philanthropist in caregiving as I feel the want and need to pay it forward to the elderly, sick, and disabled population. I desire to help seniors because without them; our young generation would have never had the proper guidance in life. My need to give to the sick and disabled population has stemmed from very personal life experiences. What I have observed is most of the sick and disabled population are significantly left out or overlooked in many aspects of life. Compassion, high empathy, respect, patience, understanding, upbeat attitude, and a great friend are helpful personal traits that make me an exceptional caregiver. Making someone's day a lot brighter, assisting a laugh, or helping the old, sick, and disabled produce a smile on a consistent basis is my love and attraction to the caregiving sector.

My experience in hospitality industry lead me to this work, where I was able to help and volunteer to a group of seniors who come and eat in our restaurant. The part I enjoy most is listening to their story especially if their trying hard to remember and try to help them through it. I am a happy, healthy, compassionate, loyal, patient, loving person who found my caregiver calling late in life. I am 66 years old and have been doing this for a little over 12 years and love what I do. I started when a couple different neighbors of mine were ill and didn't have any family to help them. I had my CPR CERT so I said why not and when they were doing better I decided to make this my work. (Experience through: IHSS, CARE.COM, CARELINX & CAMBRIAN HOME CARE) The first client I had was in very bad shape when I met him, diabetes, renal failure, heart failure, living on his own, not keeping up with his meds or taking his insulin properly. I called his Dr. got him on a med schedule and with the right food, TLC and exercise he did quite well. Since then I have had several different clients, one was on hospice and others I took to Dr appts., med Mgmt. , meal prep, errands and companionship. I'm looking now because one of my clients I had been caring for since 2015, unfortunately she passed away early November. I enjoy my work and I work very hard! Thank you so much, Cindy
