I was 15 years old and just started my freshman year of high school when I was placed in a class called Intergenerational Studies. For 2 hours each day I was taken to the nursing home called Golden Years there in Elgin, Tx. I started off just getting residents from their rooms to come and do activities with me. But it wasn't long and I was working side by side with CNAs, RNs, and at one point the DON had me shadow her for 2 weeks. I just got really interested and a few years after graduation and having my son, I pursued a CNA certification and was assigned the hospice hall and the "lockdown unit" which was occupied by the more violent patients and those with conditions such as Alzheimer's and/or parkinson's, as well as those with behavioral health conditions. I honestly just fell in love with everything about caring for the elderly. Even the hard and very emotional side of the care I provide is something I wouldn't want to stop doing. I would love to get my CNA back but just haven't attempted to do so since my husband passed in 2011. Since my high school days I have worked with all ages of people, from a 2 year old little princess to a 98 year old gentleman I referred to as Fred Astaire due to them looking like twins. He loved it and would smile so big when I walked in every day; and every day he would say "Good morning Ms. Judy (Garland). You feel like dancing the day away?" It's things like that for which I love my work. Please feel free to ask anything, I would love to tell everything now but there is just so much I've been blessed to have experienced with so many different people I'd never be done.

Hello ! My name is Linda, I enjoy having conversations with people of all ages. My interests vary , and I always try to be able to converse with people on their own interest. I was the primary caregiver to my own parents until their demise, I am very grateful to have been able to be there for them. My employment in different areas have been from the youngest, preschool , including children with disabilities. My previous positions have also included adults with different disabilities. I was blessed to teach a child with Downs Syndrome to wash his hands, sound out his name, move by himself to his favorite game. But most of all, to have been there for my own parents.

My most rewarding achievement has been loving and raising my children. I was blessed to be able to work in our home supporting my family and community while my kids were young. My reasoning to become a care giver would be my grandma who was a nurse in the U.S. Navy. She was respected by all because she was the best at what she did. I learned a lot from her growing up. I love being able to help people who need the help. It makes me feel so good about myself knowing I am doing what my grandma taught me as well as I know even if it is a small impact in someone's life it makes me feel great. The most proudest achievement I have made was when I did my intern at a nursing home when I got my CNA and looking at those people's faces glow when I walked into their room or the compliments I got just because I sat there to listen to their stories or whatever they might have needed even if it was small. I learned a lot working there. It was a great experience in itself.
