I became a caregiver because I have always enjoyed helping people and find it rewarding. What I like about being a caregiver is knowing that I can make a difference in someone's life and the lasting relationships I build with those I care for. I currently have 24 yrs experience being a caregiver, mainly hands on experience with Alzheimer's, dementia, cancer, and paraplegic clients. I am a 20-year-old female; I have a background in Caregiving, along with Law Enforcement as a Detention Officer. I serve in the Texas Army National Guard; my MOS is Combat Engineer(12b). Something to know is that I am pregnant ( I worked as a Detention Officer most of my Pregnancy) and enrolled in college for Respiratory Therapy. About 5 years ago, I started as a caregiver, for an elderly gentleman and I absolutely loved it. I love being around the elderly and being able to care for them. I love being caregiver because It teaches you so much, and some elderly don't have family left and we are all that they have. My personal achievement would have to be going to CNA school, and becoming one. I would love to peruse a career in this field.

Hello my name is Sandra Betance. I worked at a nursing facility for 20 years mostly in the Alzheimer's unit. I was a CNA and a household coordinator and was very involved with all types of indoor and outdoor activities. Such as taking residents to the park, bowling, fishing, movies, bus rides, bingo, group exercise, beauty shop, dancing, and many others. I also worked at a hospital as a Patient Care Technician for a little over two years. I monitored their blood pressure, temperature, pulse, oxygen level, and blood sugar several times a day. I also assisted them with bathroom use, bathing, dressing and changing their linen. I describe myself as a professional, dependable, compassionate, trustworthy and responsible person. I've been working with seniors and patients of all ages. It makes me happy knowing that I do something for them that will make them feel better. I'm also very organized and I know how to handle difficult situations. I've received awards and recognitions due to my work ethic.
