I enjoy caring for people, I have been caring for people in all stages of ageing and health. I first work in hospitals and didn't get to spend as much time getting know my client's and felt like something was missing so I started working in group homes and long-term care facilities. Now I have a small family of my own that is getting old enough that I am not need as much and can start caring for others that may need some extra help.

What attracted me to be a caregiver was when I took care of my grandfather with prostate cancer before he died. I always enjoyed being a caregiver because I treat people as my family members. My name is Jessica. I've been married to my loving husband for 35 years. We have 3 adult sons. I spend part of my time doing volunteer work in my neighborhood. I'm also an artist and love to draw and paint. I've been in the healthcare field for over 20 years as a patient access representative, nurse assistant and caregiver. As a caregiver, I help seniors and individuals with disabilities or injuries navigate their daily routines--offering not just physical support but emotional presence. I help with bathing, dressing, shaving for the male clients, toileting, light housework, meal preparation, and companionship. It's a role I take seriously, having heart and compassion. I was attracted to being a caregiver when my father was in a dementia care facility and I was impressed by how the nurses treated him with dignity, kindness and compassion. I wanted to experience for myself a sense of purpose in caregiving and that I am making a meaningful impact in my clients' lives. What I enjoy most about caregiving is the interesting conversations, listening, learning and shared laughter I have especially with my senior clients. I love to hear about their past experiences, and stories about their kids and grandkids. I see how stressed families are in taking care of their aging loved ones. My mother has dementia and it is sometimes challenging for my siblings and I to communicate our concerns and feelings to each other, getting our schedules to work together in caring for our mother. What I am most proud of is when the families thank me for my support and service in caring for their loved one. Sometimes they can't thank me enough.
