What makes me a great caregiver is that I pay attention to details. I do exactly what I'm told, asked and also give advice according to my expertise and I tell the truth about what is needed when it matters. I first started working with elders within my monastery taking care of their basic needs and taking them back and forth to doctor's appointments and following their doctors care of plan. That transmitted to my professional work life as a certified nursing aide, as I work in the nursing homes and also in private home settings. It brings me joy to see those who are in need of help receive the assistance that they need without taking away their dignity and also giving them the extra help that's necessary.... at the same time allowing them to do what they can for themselves. I have a broad range going from helping those with terminal illnesses all the way to those who just need extra assistance around the house. There is no job too big or too small for me to do.

I am a 54 yr old woman who is compassionate and personable. I enjoy helping those who need support in many facets of their life. Sitting down with someone, hearing stories about their loves and accomplishments, simply giving them time and attention is what I see is most important. The smiles, hugs and love make my job worth it each and every day. I have a full apartment downstairs has full kitchen, living/bedroom and full handicap bathroom with double sliding glass doors out on patio overlooking beautiful property and mountain views. Have worked at several Nursing homes in area for almost 5 years. Also did home care for my Mom who passed in May 2017 in a special apartment built for her with all safety features in my own home . Also took care of Neighbor's Dad in my home who passed recently. Both needed 24/7 care. I have cared for many patients at nursing homes with numerous physical and mental disabilities. Since I was a very young girl I have always known that I would be a caregiver. I watched my grandmother take care of the elderly at the Senior Citizens Center in Harlem,NY and I helped her which gave me satisfaction. The fact that I'm able to assist and provide a needed service to those in need is very rewarding. I'm most proud of my daughter who is now attending college for her RN. I am dependable, resourceful and am a good listener.

I have been a care giver for 20 plus years. I enjoy what I do despite some of the pitfalls of losing a patient or going through a change in their condition. Those experiences are so hurtful to watch but you must still give comfort and support. However, those pitfalls have made me more of a better aide in terms of what to look for and what care or support is needed. My current goal is to finish college and become an RN , I am currently attending college with great hopes of being accepted in to the Nursing program.

I became a caregiver because I love people and I feel people should have the best quality of life in there time of need. I love to help people learn new ways of taking care of themselves so they can have the best quality of life during there illness. I love the smiles I get when I arrive to start my job , I teach and clients teach me its a fabulous feeling. I made one fabulous achievement about a year ago and I will never forget it. I started to take care of a client when the client had one amputation , it was sad but we continued to do lots of stuff I had to give encouragement everyday , Then one day the client had to have the other leg removed. At this time the client was so depressed everyday was a struggle but I told the client we can still do what we did before its just going to take a little longer the clients response was," I want to go to Kohl's shopping". I said okay we can do that let me plan it out. Guess what the client went shopping at Kohl's and went to lunch, Where there is a will there is a way. I will never forget that one month later the client passed a way but the client got the shopping trip that was thought to never happen. People told me that I would not be able to do this with this client when I did they said I was one of a kind. I said no I am not I accomplished another good deed for a wonderful person. I have worked for wilcare when I first became a PCA, from there I worked for Sullivan county long term then went in to new hope commnity where I became a direct support professional working with individuals with intellectual disabilities of all phases my exsprience as they all are related in some way were to perform activities of daily living administird medication to 12 individuals, along with that prepared or prepped meals accordingly to the meal plan bathed, dressed and leisure accompanied to dr apts.
