I love to help others!!For 28 years it has brought me joy to know that I do something everyday that puts a smile on an individuals face. I'm giving back what was given to me, at sometime or another we all need someone to care for us so its my duty to give back. Raising my kids and finishing school so i could do what i love. My name is Shantell. I am a proud mother of three wonderful adult children and blessed with three amazing grandchildren. I have been working in health care since a young age, starting off being a health care aide for my blind grandmother at the tender age of 8 years old. From there on I found my passion in life. During my years as working as a personal care aide, I had the opportunity to take care of my parents during their last days. In doing so, I was able to gain a personal insight on the importance of having the right person taking care of your loved ones, which gave me an even greater passion for the work I do. I realized the importance of giving each and every person who I take care of the same love and care as I gave my loved ones while taking care of them. As well as the respect and honor to have the opportunity to be a part of their life.

I have been an emergency technician for the past 26 years. I took care of a vast array of patients including many who were in critical condition. I recently left the ER to be the caretaker for a husband and wife. I am responsible for bathing, cooking, grocery shopping, medication distribution, and household cleaning. Its a joy being able to help keep them out of a nursing home. The wife has end stage COPD and the husband has Parkinsons. I am especially proud that because of my efforts they are still living at home. The relationship I have built with them has been well worth it too. The husband has even given me the nickname Christmas because he looks forward to seeing me every morning.

I began my study in the science of nursing, applied myself academically, received scholarships and graduated with honors because I wanted a good job with the opportunity for growth and advancement. During my tours of duty I had the pleasure of working with a diverse population of people who taught me everything I know today. I learned to listen, be prudent, patient, empathetic and humble, and build trusting relationships. The people in my care revealed to me without saying a word that the good job with the opportunity for growth and advancement that I was looking for was with me the whole time. Early in my career as a registered nurse I decided to focus on home care because it was depressing to be surrounded by sick people who had to wait for pain medication, and help with meals, bathing, grooming, and toileting, and I couldn't help all of them. Home care affords me the time to focus on my actual employer's business at hand. That is your loved one's needs and concerns.
