Hi my name is Traci and I've been a caregiver for the elderly and disabled for over 20 years. I've had other jobs but I'm always drawn back to the elderly. I enjoy sitting and chatting with them, they're so full of information..... Like walking dictionaries! I have worked with many different diagnosis over the years, my schedule is flexible and I'm very dependable.

Some of personality traits are I have empathy for others . I have great sense of humor . I have 6 children so I have experience in taking care of others and a lot of patience and I like to see others do well It gives me joy to see others be successful and achieve their goals. I have all skills needed to take care of individual daily living skills . What attracted me to being a caregiver is I am a people person I love helping others especially ones that can't do it on their own . It brings me joy knowing that I helped someone achieve their goals and we can share that experience together . What I enjoy the most is basically the flexibility the connections the smile on one's face . A personal achievement that I am proud of is being a mom and raising my children and my belief in god .

I would describe myself as a respectful, observant, reliable and patient person who provides first-class care. Over the years, I have worked in various roles where the need to work closely with other people, follow strict rules and procedures, and demonstrate understanding and empathy have been required. Being a caregiver is something that comes natural to me. As a young girl I watched my mom care for our elderly relatives and neighbors. I was always happy to assist her with helping others who couldn't help themselves. I enjoy showing great companionship to my patients. I love listening to their life stories, it helps me with getting to know and understand them. I treat patients how I would want someone to treat me or my loved ones if we were in the condition. The best reward I get from being a caregiver is knowing that I was able to help give someone a better quality of life because they're no longer able to do it on their own. HELLO! My career as a caregiver started with a chronically ill father. Throughout my childhood and in my early teens my dad was very ill with diabetes Type 1. When I was 5 years old my dad lost his eyesight. As a preteen I participated in his care helping with blood sugar readings and Insulin injections. When I was able to drive I help out by taking him to doctor's appointments. I went away to college and lived in Florida for a few years and as my dad became progressively worse I moved home. I became increasingly involved in his care as my mother was worn out and had a very full-time job. At that point I decided to change career paths and go to nursing school. My love of taking care of people is a direct result of the experience I had administering Loving Care to my father . I considered to be a dedicated and resourceful Private Duty Nurse. My name is Shaquena (Sha-QUEEN-ah). I'm a HHA at Accu Care Home Health Services, been there for 6 months now. I'm in college at SCCC for Business Administration finishing up my last semester graduating in December earning my Associates Degree. I plan on taking up more healthcare/medical trades such as CNA, EKG Technician and Medical Billing. I'm even going to transfer to a 4 year university for Finance. The path that led to my interest in becoming a caregiver was, at times, quite difficult, but I am truly grateful for where my experiences have guided me. During my sophomore year of college, I went home to receive endoscopic sinus surgery in an effort to help with chronic sinus problems. After the surgery, I developed clostridium difficile colitis, which severely impacted my health for quite some time. The infection recurred several times over the course of the next year. After clearing the infection the last time, I was left with chronic irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). During this period it was difficult to perform up to my full potential in school. My struggle with clostridium difficile impacted me to such a degree that I decided to transfer out of the school of engineering to pursue a health-related career. Having experienced firsthand how compromising certain health conditions can be, I was inspired to seek to help others through a career in the health professions. I decided to major in psychology and minor in health and wellness studies, and began to take prerequisite classes for nursing school. My studies in both psychology and health and wellness further stimulated my interest in health care. The knowledge I gained from these courses was extremely valuable. Since graduating from Binghamton University in May 2017, I have taken up a full-time position at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center as a Nursing Assistant (NA). Working in a medical-surgical/telemetry inpatient unit, I have been gaining valuable experience in a direct patient care setting. My experience with clostridium difficile has deepened my compassion for those who struggle from health problems that interfere with their quality of life and day-to-day functioning. I believe what I have gained from this experience, combined with my work experience as an NA and my passion for health care make me an excellent caregiver.
