I was a caregiver to a quadriplegic professor when I was in college to help pay for my tuition. After college, I continued doing private care on the side for some Alzheimer patients at a nursing home. In 2004, I enrolled at a nursing school for a year and a half. I did not finish my degree, but I did receive my certification as a CNA and as a Medication Technician. I keep up to date with the newest discoveries and findings in the world of medicine. Even though I have not had any new medical training, I am current on my knowledge of diseases, medications and side effects of such medications. For instance, I am aware that when you care for an Alzheimer's patient, you step into his/her world, and not insist that he/she conforms to your expectations of what is real. I am compassionate and capable. All of the kids are either all grown or almost grown, but I still have this vast need to nurture. My husband refuses to be smothered, so, I need to go out of the house and find someone else who would appreciate being cared for :-) My kids are my biggest accomplishment. The eldest is going to medical school this summer, and the middle one is attending UMKC in August. The youngest one is doing great as a Sophomore while giving out just enough sass to maintain her teenage status.

Growing up I have always been very interested in helping people for their daily living. I am kind, gentle, and very compassionate person. What attracted me to being a caregiver was generally to help people and advocate for people. What enjoy most about being a caregiver is to be able help people in their sickness and you see how their health improves. What makes me a great caregiver is that my passion has always been to take care of people. It is something that comes natural to me. I was a medical assistant for 20+ years and one of my favorite roles was being a patient advocate and just being able to do what the patient needed to make their day easier for them. I have an upbeat personality and I am a great listener.

Hello! My name is Lori. I am a mother of 4 (almost grown) children, and a daughter of one elderly parent. I have been a Physical Therapist Asst. for 29 years. My mother suddenly passed in 2017. My father has severe dementia, and in her absence, there existed a need for someone to care for him. I fulfilled this role for some time, until the inevitable, appropriate time came for me to return to my family and life back here in Missouri. I personally experienced the process of seeking a suitable caregiver for my father, to help maintain the lifestyle that he had always known. I didn't think that it should be difficult to find this person (people). But, it was, especially in a small rural KS town, considering the financial resources available. I discovered a passion for in-home caregiving. I have been blessed to be able to continue caregiving since that time, and have worked with several wonderful families. I am reliable, competent and compassionate. It is my desire to continue caring for those in need.

Skills & Certifications: Vision and Eye Disorders, Stroke, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Post Surgery Recovery, Parkinson's Disease, Palliative Care, Orthopedic Care, Neurological Disorders, Hospice Care, Home Health Care, Hearing Disorders, Diabetes, Depression, Dementia, COPD, Cardiovascular Disorders, Cancer Recovery, Arthritis, Alzheimer's Disease

I consider myself to be a very plesant person. I'm always smiling and or laughing and I feel that when I'm caring for someone I'm caring for them as if they were a loved one of mine. What drew me to becoming a caregiver the most was the people and knowing that I will be helping someone do what most people take for granted and for some it can be as simple as standing up, and I also enjoy helping others. My favorite part about caring for people is the look on their faces after you've helped them with something they can no longer do, most people are very grateful and that makes me feel that I'm doing my job. Personally I have been in the nursing home environment for about 2 years now (including working for clinical hours) and I feel like I've really gotten better at developing routines for taking care of people and my skills as a CNA. I'm very confident when I'm performing a task and I feel the residents need to see that when your taking care of them.

I have always been interested in jobs that deal with the care of a persons lifestyle and I never hesitate when it comes to lending a hand to someone who needs it. I am very flexible with schedules and dealing with different clients, and I can easily adapt to new environments and the surroundings. I have experience in both home care and in a skilled nursing facility. My favorite part of my job on top of helping others is getting to know the resident I am caring for. As a caregiver you can spend more time with your client getting to know them better, which makes caring for them more of like a hobby than a job.
