What makes me a great caregiver is my passion in being able to be a part of the elderly staying in their homes if thats what they want, instead of a nursing facility. Sometimes that isn't always easy for the families to accomdate that request and that's where i come in, to help make that possible. I love being outside as well, in some instances i have been able to do certain activities with some of my clients ive had, that they may wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. Ive worked with clients having different situations from just needing compaionship and doing activities, to more of needing personal care, all the way to hospice care. I became a caregiver because I have a passion to help people in need. I want to make a difference in someones life, to be able to lend a hand when needed, and an ear to listen. What I like about being a cargiver is just beibg able to be there for a person when they at times may feel like they are alone and don't have any one to talk to or seeing the smile on their face after I have done what they have asked of me. I like being that friend when they need it. The thing I can say I am proud of is the fact that I don't give up. When the father of my 3 son's passed away I did not give up on myself nor did I give up on them I pushed myself to be a better mother as well as example to them. My most resent achievement was relocating from Colorodo to Columbia with my boys and my soon to be husband to start over with just us for a new begining. I find joy in meeting new people and trying new things. I am a hard worker and I always keep a smile on my face.

I've always given my "all" in every client that i have worked with. I have a gift of patience, caring and understanding. I've always had a nurturing spirit and it is a rewarding experience to help others. I've been working as a Private Duty caregiver for approximately 40 years with Hospice , Alzheimer, Dementia &, Parkinson and elderly clients. My personal achievement is to be the very best at every opportunity God has blessed me with; and make my client feel as safe and secure while in my care. I've worked with terminally ill clients from the beginning until the end(administered medications, contacted hospice & family, etc). I would take care of feeding tubes(flushing, hook& unhook(Kangaroo pump). I've worked with clients as a Personal Care Asst, Direct Support Asst and an advanced personal aide with wound care, catheter care, bladder/bowel care, bathing, dressing, grooming, meal preparation, laundry, companionship, shopping, errands, etc. I took care of my husband that passed away suddenly 7 years ago, my ill mother-in-law and terminally ill father. I'm available evenings, overnights(preferably) and weekends. I have a full-time job, but am available as soon as possible.

I grew up with a grandma who had strokes. She eventually became paralyzed from a stroke. I would watch my family do everything for her. When I turned 14 I began volunteering to do something she needed and I would stay the weekends and be the only one there to care for her. It brought us closer together. The best thing about being a caregiver would have to be the elderly you meet and the bond you create with them. My biggest achievement so far in life would be getting married. I am easy to get along with but I take my job very serious. I began in nursing when I was 22. My mom worked in nursing for 28yrs. and now I understand why my mom was happy and sad at the same time. Taking care of another human being is the most exciting and heartbreaking job.
